Economic development transition in Dai Son

BAC NINH - Determining agricultural and forestry production as the foundation for economic development, Dai Son commune (Bac Ninh) focuses on shifting the structure of crops and livestock combined with the application of science and technology to increase the value per hectare of production land. Thanks to that, people's lives are constantly improving.

Raising the bar for agricultural commodity production

In recent years, Dai Son has strongly transformed from small-scale production to commodity production, applying VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to help local products qualify to participate in the safe agricultural value chain, meeting market demand. Apples and lychees are two main crops suitable for local production conditions and bring high economic value that are increasingly expanding. The whole commune has 639 hectares of lychees, with an output of 10,024 tons/year, the last lychee crop brought in revenue of more than 200 billion VND.

The success in shifting the crop structure of Dai Son is the introduction of apple varieties into concentrated production. Up to now, the commune has expanded the area to more than 190 hectares, with an output of 3,575 tons in 2024. Currently, the trees are in the fruit development stage, expected to be harvested during Tet. Dai Son apple is a 3-star OCOP product, has built a brand in the market, and has been signed by many traders, convenience stores, and supermarkets in and outside the province to consume the product.

Mr. Lanh Van Sang, Tan Son village shared that in the past, his family's economy mainly relied on economic forests, with a harvest cycle of 5 years/time. In 2019, after harvesting 2 hectares of acacia wood, he borrowed more money from relatives to improve 1 hectare of agricultural land and plant 150 Xuan apple trees. Thanks to good care, after 1 year, the apples were harvested. In 2024 alone, the apple garden earned a profit of 80 million VND. "Growing apples effectively, this year, the family applied for an additional loan of 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to expand the intensive apple cultivation area," said Mr. Sang.

Mr. Luong Van Tu, Head of the Commune Economic Department, said: Along with focusing on investing in developing key crops, Dai Son takes advantage of natural conditions with many grazing grounds and by-products of farming to raise livestock and develop the economy. Households in the commune have raised 352 buffaloes, 1,270 cows, more than 75,500 poultry, goats, and deer. The total output of fresh meat of all kinds reached 387 tons, with a revenue of about 31.32 billion. In addition, some households also raise bees for honey with 2,320 colonies, with an estimated honey output of more than 34.55 tons/year and a revenue of more than 5.1 billion VND. In the forestry sector, the whole commune has more than 4,000 hectares of production forest, with a coverage rate of 65%. Thanks to the focus on developing the forest economy, the average income reached nearly 100 million VND/ha/cycle (5 years), the total value of forestry production in the whole commune reached 292 billion VND.

Diversifying economic development forms opens up opportunities for many households to escape poverty, and the quality of life is gradually improved. The average income now reaches 40 million VND/person/year, an increase of 1.6 times compared to 2020.

Opening the direction of commercial service development

Along with the development of commodity agriculture, to promote economic growth, the commune focuses on investing in basic construction of transport infrastructure to promote the development of trade and services. Many projects have been deployed, completed and put into use, contributing to changing the face of the countryside. Notable are the central market project of Dai Son commune, the routes Suoi Xa - Viet Trong, the village roads Tan Hiep - Da Coi, Tan Son - Trung Son, Viet Tien - Suoi Hau - Vinh An, Dong Muong - Dong Cao... Currently, some industries have been expanded such as: Production of civil woodwork, small mechanics, production of construction materials, essential goods supply services, garment processing... creating stable jobs for more than 1,400 local workers. 88.4% of commune roads and 82% of village roads have been paved, creating favorable conditions for the development of production and circulation of goods.

Dai Son sets a target for the 2025-2030 period: economic growth rate reaches 12.5%/year; commercial and service production value reaches 365 billion VND/year; production value per hectare of agricultural land reaches 125 million VND/year; by the end of 2027, the commune will have no more poor households according to multidimensional standards...

The retail system is developing, transportation, postal, telecommunications, Internet and electronic payment services are increasingly expanding, promoting trade, serving production and people's lives. In the period of 2020 - 2025, the value of industrial production, small-scale industry and rural occupations of the commune is estimated at 377.1 billion VND. The value of commercial and service production of the commune is estimated at 226.1 billion VND.

Dai Son sets a target for the period 2025 - 2030: economic growth rate reaches 12.5%/year; commercial and service production value reaches 365 billion VND/year; production value per hectare of agricultural land reaches 125 million VND/year; forestry reaches 25 million VND/ha/year. By the end of 2027, the commune will have no poor households according to multidimensional standards... Comrade Hoang Van Phuong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that to achieve the above goal, Dai Son Commune People's Committee focuses on building a 5-year socio-economic development plan, assigning specific targets to each industry and each village. At the same time, promote the application of science and technology, develop agricultural production according to the value chain. Focus on attracting investment in potential fields such as wood processing, mechanics, construction materials, transportation, trade and services. Link forest development with eco-tourism, forest experience, community tourism, contributing to promoting the local image. At the same time, strictly manage and transparently manage the budget, mobilize maximum social resources in infrastructure construction, and implement the motto "State and People work together".
