In the first two months of this year, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and VietJet Air were the airlines with the tendency to increase delayed flights compared to the same period last year.

Recently, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam ( Ministry of Transport ) announced statistics on the overall number of flights operated by the aviation industry in February and the first two months of last year.

Accordingly, in the first two months of the year - the peak season of the aviation industry when people's travel density increases sharply during the biggest holiday of the year - Lunar New Year, the number of delayed flights tends to increase.

Total flights operated in February reached 24,711 flights, with Vietnam Airlines accounting for the highest number of flights at 10,383 flights.

Regarding the on-time flight rate in February, the entire aviation industry only reached 67.7%, a sharp decrease of 13% compared to the previous month. The above figure has decreased significantly compared to 85.3% of on-time flights during the Lunar New Year period last year - January 2023,

VietJet Air tops the list of delayed flights with 45.6% of its total flights being delayed. Next is Pacifi Airlines , with 41% of its flights being delayed.

Notably, Bamboo Airways, which is always among the most punctual airlines, unexpectedly had 31.5% of its flights delayed.

Small airline VASCO is the airline with the most on-time flights, reaching 89.1%. Next is Vietnam Airlines with 80% and Vietravel with 76.4% on-time flights.

In the first two peak months of the year, the entire industry operated 46,125 flights, down about 6% over the same period last year.

The on-time flight rate only reached 73.7%, a sharp decrease of 10.7% compared to 84.4% in the first two months of 2023.

The main reason is the sharp increase in delayed flights of the "low-cost" airline VietJet Air , reaching nearly 7,000 flights, 2.3 times higher than the figure of the same period in 2023, about 3,000 flights.

Pacific Airlines also fell behind, achieving only 65.4% of on-time flights.

With 77.9% of flights on time, Bamboo Airways gave up the top spot to Vietnam Airlines with 83.2% of flights on time.

In general, the entire aviation industry in the first two months of this year has seen a significant decrease in total flights operated and in ensuring on-time flights for passengers.

Airfare prices have always been a "hot" issue of interest to the community since the beginning of the year, as prices are considered quite high compared to last year.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the aviation industry recorded positive revenue growth as the number of domestic and international tourists gradually returned. However, two major airlines: Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air still recorded losses, showing that the core operations of airlines are still facing many difficulties in the context of high fuel prices.

Recently, Pacific Airlines officially confirmed the return of all aircraft yesterday (March 18).

Pacific Airlines is the first low-cost airline in Vietnam, currently Vietnam Airlines holds nearly 99% of the shares.

The airline representative said that this is a step in restructuring the airline's fleet and route network to ensure and increase operational efficiency.

During this time, some routes will change their plans or temporarily suspend operations. Pacific Airlines has developed and implemented a plan to best ensure the interests of passengers. Pacific Airlines is arranging to lease 3 aircraft from Vietnam Airlines to ensure operations.
