Can Tho discusses solutions for developing human resources in science and technology

On the afternoon of July 18, the People's Committee of Can Tho City organized a scientific workshop "PII - Positioning innovation in the socio -economic development of Can Tho City and towards promoting innovation in the Mekong Delta region". Attending the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, and 100 delegates who are scientists from institutes, departments and enterprises operating in the field of science and technology (S&T).

At the workshop, scientists emphasized that the Provincial Innovation Index (PII) provided a realistic, comprehensive picture of the current status of the socio-economic development model based on science, technology and innovation of each locality.

Can Tho City has been promoting activities linking scientific research and technology development with production and business, promoting local strengths, creating overall strength to develop science and technology and innovation, contributing to the socio-economic development of the whole region.

According to the 2023 PII announcement results, Can Tho is in the top 5 localities with the highest PII index in the country, with a score of 49.66.

“The workshop is an opportunity for the city to strengthen the connection between managers, scientists, research experts, businesses and business support organizations in the Mekong Delta region in assessing the current situation and potential for localities to build appropriate socio-economic development policies based on science, technology and innovation of each locality,” said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee.

At the workshop, delegates focused on solutions for developing human resources in science and technology and innovation; intellectual property is an important factor in improving the innovation index... At the same time, they shared domestic and international experiences on innovation in socio-economic development.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, it is necessary to have a correct understanding of the importance of developing human resources in science and technology and innovation for the development of the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho in particular. This is an important foundation to help the region improve its competitiveness and respond to global challenges such as climate change and international economic integration.

However, although the importance of this human resource has been affirmed, attracting and developing it still faces many difficulties. The reasons may stem from objective factors such as uneven socio-economic development and incomplete infrastructure.

Another important reason is that some local authorities and Party committees have not really paid due attention and have not sought effective solutions to attract and develop high-quality human resources.

Therefore, it is necessary to continue to promote and raise awareness among Party committees, authorities, business communities and the whole society about the importance of developing human resources in science and technology and innovation. This needs to be done through communication campaigns, seminars, as well as training programs to improve the capacity of management staff.
