According to the people around here, the "ghost market" starts when it is still dark, and when the sun gradually rises, fish and shrimp from here will spread to all markets in the province to be sold to people.
People who have been associated with the ghost market for many years said: Most of the sellers and buyers have known each other for many years, so no one haggles or raises prices. They just agree on buying and selling, so buying and selling activities take place quickly and smoothly.
The market is busiest during the flood season (usually from July to October of the lunar calendar), becoming a unique feature of the border area of An Giang province. Buyers and sellers come here with flashlights to look at fish, pay...
The flood season brings lots of shrimp and fish, which is also the time when fishermen set traps, pull nets, and catch snakehead fish, perch, and linh fish, etc., and then bring them to the "ghost market" to sell. On a lucky night, if the net catches a lot of shrimp and fish, fishermen can earn several million dong. Fishermen catch fish and then bring them to the "ghost market" to sell, so the fish is very fresh. Traders from various places gathered to wait for fishermen to bring fish to sell. According to fish sellers here, the "ghost market" has existed for more than 20 years and is one of the largest freshwater and river fish markets in An Giang province. The market operates in the dark so buyers and sellers must use flashlights and headlights to choose fish and pay. After being bought and sold at the "ghost market", shrimp and fish will be brought back to the provincial markets to be sold to customers. During the flood season, the market is held every day regardless of rain or wind. The market is located at the foot of Tha La bridge, on a 50m long section of Cay Cham street, the buying and selling atmosphere is always bustling. The sellers and buyers at the market are almost familiar with each other so there is little need to bargain, just weigh and pay. Local people in the area also go to the market early to buy fresh fish and shrimp. The buying and selling scene took place quickly, and by about 4:30 the market gradually became deserted.
