Sexual orientation

The Ministry of Health has just issued Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gonorrhea (Decision 5165/QD-BYT dated November 9, 2021); which states: "The disease is mainly transmitted through vaginal, oral and anal sex".

Safe sex and proper condom use are measures to help prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Explaining the transmission route mentioned in the above instructions, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lan, Head of the Department of Scientific Research and International Cooperation, Central Dermatology Hospital, shared: "It can be said that oral and anal sex is an increasingly popular sexual trend among young people today , especially among homosexual men."

According to Dr. Pham Thi Lan, for those who have more than one sexual partner, the above sexual orientation is a very high risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, including gonorrhea .

A person with gonorrhea bacteria in the mouth, throat, or anus may have no symptoms or only show sore throat or red inflammation in the anus like inflammation due to other causes. When having oral-genital or genital-anal sex, they will still have a high risk of transmitting gonorrhea to their partner. Or vice versa, a person with gonorrhea bacteria in the genital tract, when having genital-oral or genital-anal sex, will have a risk of transmitting gonorrhea in the throat or anus to their partner.

discreet symptoms

According to the Central Dermatology Hospital, signs of suspected gonorrhea can appear 3-7 days after unsafe sex. Male patients often have painful urination, frequent urination, redness and natural pus discharge at the urethra, or pus will be seen when stroking along the urethra.

For women, symptoms may be subtle, with only increased vaginal discharge or pus-filled vaginal discharge. If there is oral-genital or anal-genital intercourse , redness, inflammation, or pus may be seen in the throat or anus.

Note, this disease can be completely cured, patients should go to a medical facility for early treatment to avoid complications and limit further spread to sexual partners.

Gonorrhea is not immunogenic, so patients will be reinfected if they continue to have unsafe sex or are exposed to the source of the disease again.

To prevent gonorrhea infection, have healthy sex, be faithful; practice safe sex, use condoms properly, do not use stimulants during sex. All sexual partners who have had sex with the patient within 60 days need to be examined and treated. If the last sexual intercourse was more than 60 days ago, treat the sexual partner of the last sexual intercourse.
