The school year schedule for 2025-2026 prioritizes time for students in the first and final grades.

To prepare for the 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued a timeframe allowing schools to start the school year as early as 7 days before the scheduled opening ceremony (August 29th). In particular, students in the first grade (grade 1), the final grade (grade 12), and grade 9 will have a longer preparation period with an earlier start date, two weeks earlier, beginning on August 22nd.

Local authorities have made specific adjustments to the school start dates. In Ho Chi Minh City, students in grades 1, 9, and 12 will start school on August 20th, while other grades will begin on August 25th. Similarly, many provinces such as Khanh Hoa and Lao Cai have set August 20th for students in grades 1, 9, and 12 and August 27th for the remaining grades. Some other provinces such as An Giang, Hung Yen, and Quang Ngai have chosen August 22nd as the start date for students in the first and final grades, while all students will officially return to school on August 29th. This adjustment aims to provide the best conditions for students, especially those transitioning to and in their final year of school, giving them more time to settle in and get acquainted with the new learning environment.
