Compared to many other flower-growing areas in the city, Duong Son flower-growing area was less affected by the natural disasters at the end of October 2025. Thanks to its relatively high elevation, most of the flower and ornamental plant areas were not flooded for extended periods; the main flower varieties such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, petunias, and lucky bamboo... grew quite uniformly, giving growers peace of mind in production.
These days, a bustling atmosphere of work prevails across the flower fields. Farmers are taking advantage of the sunny weather to fertilize, spray pesticides, prune branches, remove buds, and adjust cultivation techniques to ensure the flowers bloom at the right time. Each step is carefully calculated, because even a few days' delay can significantly reduce the value of a potted flower for Tet (Lunar New Year).
In her flower garden, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sung (Hoa Xuan ward) carefully fertilizes each pot of chrysanthemums. Compared to last year, Ms. Sung reduced the area planted with chrysanthemums due to concerns that the demand for Tet flowers might stagnate amidst the general economic difficulties.
“This year, my family planted nearly 1,000 pots of chrysanthemums and crystal chrysanthemums, interspersed with some short-lived flowers to mitigate risks. We started planting in August of the lunar calendar, and luckily, the recent floods didn't affect them much, so the flowers are developing quite well,” Ms. Sung shared.
According to Ms. Sung, this period is crucial for determining the quality of the flowers. Growers must closely monitor the weather, water levels, and nutrients to ensure uniform growth, strong stems, and large buds. The care is very hard work, but as long as the flowers bloom at the right time and fetch a good price, the people are very happy.

Meanwhile, Mr. Doan Van Trinh continues to maintain a production scale similar to last year. For this year's Tet flower season, his family planted about 1,000 clay pots with varieties such as crystal chrysanthemums, large chrysanthemums, marigolds, and peonies; along with 3,000 plastic pots containing butterfly flowers, marigolds, zinnias, and cabbage.
Thanks to not being affected by the recent floods, the entire flower crop of his family is now growing steadily.
However, according to Mr. Trinh, the high investment costs this year are causing concern among farmers. The prices of flower seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides are all fluctuating, forcing growers to carefully consider each step.
Currently, large potted chrysanthemums and crystal chrysanthemums with a diameter of 1 meter are expected to sell wholesale for around 2.5 million VND/pair; 80cm pots for about 1.5 million VND/pair; and the smallest ones for around 450,000 VND/pair. It is predicted that the price of Tet flowers this year may increase slightly due to high input costs and natural disasters affecting many regions.
Regarding expectations for the Tet flower season, Mr. Trinh shared: “We only hope that the weather from now until Tet will be favorable, so that the flowers bloom at the right time for timely sale. We hope for a quick market and stable prices so that flower growers can recoup their costs and make a little profit after a year of many worries.”

The entire Duong Son flower growing area covers approximately 4.5 hectares, with 21 households participating in production. The total number of flowers and ornamental plants for this year's Tet (Lunar New Year) is estimated at around 12,000 pots of various types of chrysanthemums, 50,000 pots of raspberries, 10,000 pots of petunias, 5,300 marigolds, 3,000 pots of cosmos, and 3,000 pots of lucky bamboo. This is an important source of supply for the Tet flower market in the city.
According to Mr. Ly Phuoc Dang, head of the Duong Son flower cooperative, people have put more effort into caring for the flowers this Tet season. Floods have increased the investment in fertilizers, pesticides, and seedlings.
Despite rising input costs and the lack of cooling prices for agricultural supplies, the general sentiment among flower growers in Duong Son remains quite optimistic. Many households hope that if the weather continues to be favorable, the flowers will be of good quality, and prices will increase slightly, then this year's Tet season will help farmers recoup some of the losses caused by natural disasters.
