(Dan Tri) - In a group of all women, the male student bravely overcame prejudice and pursued his passion to become a preschool teacher.

For many years, the preschool education sector has not only faced professional pressure but also had to overcome persistent social prejudices. Many people still assume that preschool teachers must be female, because the job of raising and caring for children is closely associated with the image of a mother.

Among the 250 new students of the 51st course of the Faculty of Preschool Education at the main campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Le Trung Nghia, 18 years old, a former student of Quang Trung High School, Thai My Commune, Ho Chi Minh City, is the only male student.

Dr. Bui Hong Quan, Head of the Department of Preschool Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that male students are often hesitant when taking the exam for Preschool Education.

However, in reality, there are many preschool teachers who love their job, are trusted by parents, and even become managers at preschools or government agencies. If a mother can take good care of her children, a father can do the same.

However, the good news is that the school's Early Childhood Education department is increasingly attracting male students. For example, before 2023, the department had almost no male students, but in 2024 and 2025, the department had one student each year.

In the past, preschool education was often overlooked and not given its proper status. However, in recent years, society has had a more positive view, considering preschool as the foundation of the education system. Many new policies have also gradually affirmed the role and position of preschool teachers.

"We always hope that the faculty will have more male students. Because, obviously, preschool education is not only for female teachers. Male preschool teachers can also do it, and do it very well," said Dr. Quan.

Dr. Bui Hong Quan said that this year the number of students registering for the Preschool Education exam has increased significantly compared to last year. The number of candidates taking the aptitude test has increased nearly 4 times (in 2024 there were about 1,000 candidates taking the aptitude test, this year there were nearly 4,000).

The increased input quality leads to a higher quality of new students. The benchmark score for this major in 2024 is 24.24, this year it is 26.05. This year's top student of the Preschool Education department scored 28.79 points.

Dr. Bui Hong Quan said: “Only when you truly believe in and love your profession will you strive to do well. At that time, you will become the one to enhance the role and position of preschool teachers in the eyes of society.”

In addition to the general policy of the state, when graduating, if students become teachers at public kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City, there will be additional specific policies.

The starting salary of public preschool teachers in Ho Chi Minh City is 12-13 million VND/month. If students choose to work at non-public facilities, their income can be from 7-15 million VND/month, depending on their ability and the preschool facility...
