Monitoring site DownDetector.com received 2,483 reports of OpenAI service outages as of 11:42 p.m. ET. The outages occurred on both the paid and enterprise versions.
OpenAI said it identified the issue affecting its API (application programming interface) services, ChatGPT and Sora, and is working to resolve it. In its latest update, the company said it is starting to see things improve. It said it had identified a “path to recovery” less than two hours after first acknowledging the issue and said some traffic had returned to normal.

The full update on the site states: "We have identified a path to recovery and we are starting to see some successful access again. We are working to get the service back to normal." A few minutes later, they added: "We are continuing to troubleshoot the issue."
OpenAI has not provided an estimated time for when services will return to normal, but has promised to update users on any developments.
On Twitter, many users also complained about OpenAI's problems. One user wrote: "I was wondering why nothing would load. Good to know you've fixed it. Thanks." Another joked: "Have you tried rebooting?"
OpenAI has not yet given a reason for the outage.
OpenAI's outage comes around the same time Meta also experienced issues with Facebook, which the world's largest social network said was now "99% of the way" to fixing the bug. Earlier, thousands of social media users in parts of the UK reported issues with Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
DownDetector says the three cities most affected by the outage are London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Other major cities heavily affected by the outage include Cardiff, Nottingham, and Birmingham.
