It is estimated that dozens of parents have fallen into the scam of a Shanghai-based fashion company. The company has taken more than 367,000 yuan (more than 1.3 billion VND) from dozens of parents.

According to Chinese media, the company promoted a series of events called “Paris Children's Fashion Week” during the summer vacation of students.

This company even built a website with fake content to gain trust from parents.

Currently, there are many forms of fraud that prey on parents' desire to help their children improve their records (Illustration: SCMP).

At the shows, this unit always uses the names and logos of world- famous luxury fashion brands. Parents who want their children to participate in these “high-end brand” fashion shows must pay an initial fee of up to 6,000 yuan (nearly 22 million VND).

The incident was only exposed after a world-famous fashion brand with a branch in China filed a complaint with authorities in Shanghai.

The complaint reflects the illegal use of their brand logos and the “transformation” of their names into “similar” names to deceive parents.

The company also used fake costumes and asked parents to pay more than 10,000 yuan (more than 36 million VND) for each costume that the child wore during the show.

The authorities determined that the company’s actions had violated trademark rights and declared that all the money collected from parents was illegal profit. The company was fined 600,000 yuan.

This scam exploits the desire of parents to help their children gain more experience and enhance their children's profile information about extracurricular activities they have participated in.

On Chinese social networks, many netizens said that more and more scams are appearing that prey on parents who want to help their children improve their profiles.

For example, many arts and sports centers charge large fees when parents register their children for children's competitions.

In return, students will certainly have medals and awards to enhance their resumes, making the process of applying to high-quality schools easier.
