According to the National Press Awards Council, the press over the past year has reflected the efforts of the Party, State, people and businesses to implement the socio -economic development plan and the National Development Strategy for the 13th Party Congress; the Party building and rectification work, resolutely and persistently fighting against corruption, negativity, fighting against wrong and hostile viewpoints, and protecting the Party's ideological foundation.
The press discovered models of agricultural and agricultural product development, green economic development, circular economy, and mentioned issues and bottlenecks of the economy such as public investment, attracting foreign investment, gold market, electricity, gasoline, stocks, real estate, credit, etc. At the same time, it directly mentioned hot and prominent issues in society such as the terrorist incident in Dak Lak and profiteering from crimes against the State; fraud in the 4.0 era; the problem of environmental encroachment through the "carving up" of global geoparks; the dangers of "dust lung" and "white pollution", deforestation and the "express delivery" of illegal timber, fraud in publishing international articles, theft of antiques and painful lessons from "mini apartments"...
Speaking at the award ceremony, President To Lam sent to generations of journalists, press workers, and the press public at home and abroad his warm feelings, kind regards, and best wishes from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; wishing veteran journalists, cadres, and press workers across the country good health, happiness, and many successes in their work and life.
The President emphasized that the Vietnamese revolutionary press was founded by beloved President Ho Chi Minh, under the leadership of the Party, with the noble and sacred goal of serving the Fatherland and the people. Over the past 99 years of establishment and development, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has clearly demonstrated its role as a sharp weapon of the working class, a revolutionary flag, making important contributions to the struggle for national liberation and reunification in the past, as well as in the current cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland. Overcoming all difficulties and challenges, not afraid of hardships and sacrifices, ready to rush into the waves and winds, generations of journalists have joined hands and unanimously built a press that is truly the voice of the Party and the people; a trustworthy bridge between the people and the Party and the State; a bridge between the Party, the State, our people and international friends.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President commended, acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements and results of the press and journalists in the cause of national liberation, construction and development of the country over the past 99 years.
The President congratulated 122 authors and groups of authors who were awarded the 18th National Press Award - the most prestigious award of the Journalists' Association for journalistic works, honoring authors and groups of authors with the best works in 2023.
The President also pointed out that the current context poses great and glorious requirements and tasks for the press and journalists in propaganda, creating social consensus and combined strength, successfully implementing the Party's policies and guidelines; at the same time, building a professional, humane and modern press and media.
The President suggested focusing on building a team of journalists who are truly soldiers on the cultural and ideological front, with “bright minds, pure hearts, sharp pens”, “both red and professional”; steadfast in the ideals and noble values of journalism, adhering to principles, maintaining professional ethics, having an offensive spirit, fighting to eliminate evil and wrong, protecting right and good, always devoting all their heart and strength to the common cause.
The President also proposed to promote the role of the press - a tool for social struggle, national struggle, class struggle, truly a sharp weapon, an effective tool of the Party on the ideological front.
Along with that, overcome the situation of pure information and mere entertainment tools; constantly arouse and encourage the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, the will to overcome difficulties and challenges, optimism, self-reliance, self-reliance, national pride, build and promote the great national unity, create motivation for the country's development.
At the same time, cultural values in journalistic works must be enhanced. Journalistic works must constantly preserve and promote ethical values and Vietnamese cultural identity; shape and spread cultural standards of behavior in society, contributing to the building and development of Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period.
The press also needs to strongly promote digital transformation and innovation; revolutionary press information must truly become the mainstream information stream in the digital space.
The President said that to become pioneers on the ideological and cultural front, to be "secretaries of the times" and "gatekeepers of the people", revolutionary journalists must meet high demands in terms of intelligence, courage, sense of responsibility and dedication, and must constantly strive to study theory, journalism skills and modern media technology.
The President believes that, continuing the 99-year tradition of establishment and development, with experience, courage, and will, the team of journalists - the vanguard force on the Party's cultural and ideological front, will excellently complete all tasks entrusted to them by the Party, State, and people.
The number of works submitted for this award is 1,905, of which 1,827 works meet the requirements. Of the 165 works entered into the final round, the National Press Awards Council discussed, evaluated and voted to select 10 A prizes, 26 B prizes, 45 C prizes, and 41 consolation prizes to award the 18th National Press Awards in 2023.
Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper won 2 C prizes, including the work "The tourism industry calls for help because... there is a lack of a "conductor" (series of 5 articles) by the group of authors: Bui Thi Hong (Thi Hong), Tran Thi Thu Ha (Mai An), Nguyen Quoc Binh (Quoc Binh), Nguyen Tien Thang (Nguyen Tien), Mai Thi Xuan Quynh (Xuan Quynh) and the work "Profiting from crimes against the State" (series of 3 articles) by author Pham Hoai Nam (Hoai Nam).
