On December 15th, authorities completed the basic clearing of the road surface, finished the rock blasting, and prepared the conditions for one-way traffic during the day, ensuring traffic safety.

According to information from Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company, units are focusing on clearing remaining rocks and debris on the Khanh Le pass. Numerous machines and vehicles are being deployed to work continuously in order to quickly restore the road surface; at the same time, reinforcing areas at risk of landslides.

According to Mr. Le Thuan Doan, Director of Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company, if the weather is favorable, the repair of the main landslide areas will be completed in the next few days. It is expected that on December 16th and 17th, both Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces will coordinate a field inspection to assess the safety level before agreeing on a plan to reopen the road. Initially, it is planned to allow traffic in two lanes with speed limits during the day. At night, the road will remain temporarily closed to continue addressing areas that have not been fully restored and to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.

Previously, the Khanh Hoa Department of Construction issued a notice prohibiting all vehicles from circulating on National Highway 27C, the section through Khanh Le Pass, to facilitate repairs and remediation of landslides following heavy rains. On November 16th and 17th, several serious landslides occurred in the Khanh Le Pass area, completely paralyzing traffic.

Immediately after the incident, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command mobilized engineering troops to coordinate the blasting of approximately 600 cubic meters of rock at Km44+400. Simultaneously, road management units and related forces participated in clearing thousands of cubic meters of soil and rocks that had spilled onto the road surface, opening a temporary access route to the scene, and implementing technical measures.

The Khánh Lê Pass, approximately 33 km long, is a crucial transportation route on National Highway 27C, connecting the South Central coastal region with the Central Highlands. The prolonged disruption of this route has significantly impacted travel, goods transportation, and the lives of people in Khánh Hòa and Lâm Đồng provinces.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, said that the engineering corps has completed the rock removal at points causing traffic congestion on the Khanh Le pass. Currently, the relevant units are urgently clearing debris, reinforcing the road foundation, and conducting a comprehensive inspection of the pass. The road surface is basically open for two lanes, but it is not yet ready for official traffic. The Department of Construction will coordinate with relevant units to conduct a thorough review before deciding on a plan for limited traffic flow, prioritizing safety above all else.

Given the frequent landslides on National Highway 27C, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has submitted a report to central ministries and agencies proposing investment in a highway project connecting Khanh Hoa with Lam Dong. Provincial leaders believe that the construction of this highway is necessary to ensure traffic safety, minimize risks during the rainy season and floods, and enhance socio-economic development connectivity between the Central Coast and the Central Highlands regions.
