AFF Cup final not held at My Dinh Stadium: VFF loses billions

The 2024 AFF Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand took place at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ). Basically, Phu Tho province meets the conditions for organizing competitions and accommodation for international football teams very well. This stadium has a high-quality grass surface and leaves many beautiful images of the stands filled with fans.

But financially, VFF could lose a large amount of money, not less than 5 billion VND, if the AFF Cup 2024 final is not held at My Dinh. If the match is played at the national stadium, the Vietnamese team can sell about 28,000 tickets. My Dinh Stadium has a capacity of about 40,000 seats but will lose 12,000 invitation tickets to serve officials, players, match organizers and sponsors.

This number at Viet Tri Stadium is much more modest. To ensure safety, the stadium only welcomes a maximum of about 18,000 spectators. The number of tickets allowed to be sold is only over 10,000 because it is necessary to ensure the number of invitation tickets according to the interests of sponsors, match organizers, officials and players.

Viet Tri Stadium can only sell 3 different ticket classes, the number of tickets in good locations that sell for high prices is not much. At My Dinh Stadium, the number of good seats and private VVIP rooms is much more and VFF can collect a larger amount of money. According to estimates, this unit "lost" no less than 5 billion VND.

All tickets for the 2024 AFF Cup final sold out online 30 minutes after they were re-opened. Previously, the ticket sales portal had problems due to overload right after the scheduled opening. The ticket distribution channel via the app was reopened at around 11:30.

Some accounts are selling tickets worth 1 million VND/pair for 2.5 million VND/pair, which is 2.5 times the original price. Tickets worth 2 million VND/pair are being marked up to 3.5 times (7 million VND/pair). Some people are even selling VIP tickets (invitation tickets) at an "unimaginable" price of 30-40 million VND/pair.

The first leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 2 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho). This is the first time this venue has hosted a regional tournament final. The national team and youth teams of Vietnam have never lost when playing at Viet Tri Stadium.
