Song Lo farmers compete in good production and business

After implementing the policy of merging 4 communes: Tu Yen, Dong Thinh, Yen Thach and Duc Bac into a new administrative unit - Song Lo commune, from the fields to the farms, farmers are working hard to produce. The movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has become an economic driving force promoting the spirit of self-reliance and creativity in each farming household in the commune, affirming new vitality in this land of great potential.

The merger of administrative boundaries has presented many challenges, but at the same time, it has opened up opportunities to standardize and develop concentrated economic models. In response to this reality, the Farmers' Association of Song Lo commune quickly reorganized its structure, turning challenges into motivation. The first Congress of the Song Lo Commune Farmers' Association, for the 2025-2030 term, clearly defined the goal of focusing on the emulation movement for excellent production and business. The Association has played a leading role by reviewing and consolidating 36 grassroots branches, ensuring that all members have access to information and development opportunities.

Using a job creation loan, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien's family in Bang Phu village, Song Lo commune, invested in pig and cattle farming and fish breeding, earning a profit of 400-500 million VND per year after deducting expenses.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Chairwoman of the Song Lo Commune Farmers' Association, said: "The merger requires synchronization of working methods and sharing of production experiences. We have focused on professional training. In a short time, nearly 200 officials, including Executive Committee members, branch chairmen, branch vice-chairmen, and outstanding members, have participated in training courses on association work, supervision skills, and participation in building new rural areas. This is the core force, the driving force leading various movements, including the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty."

To further promote and improve the quality and effectiveness of the movement, the Farmers' Association of the commune mobilized over 1,000 households to register as outstanding production and business households. Through evaluation, 341 households achieved the title of outstanding production and business at various levels, including many exemplary individuals with innovative and creative initiatives and methods. Notable examples include: the red-fleshed dragon fruit cultivation model of a farmer in Chien Thang village; the ornamental plant and flower cultivation in Khoai Trung village; the production of T&T plastic rattan chairs in Bang Phu village; and the chicken and pig farming models in Thong Nhat, Minh Khai, and Bang Phu villages... These models have created regular employment for hundreds of workers with an average income ranging from 500 million VND to over 1 billion VND per household per year. Through this movement, many new models have emerged, attracting investment from all levels and sectors, such as: the combination of growing seedless black grapes and ornamental plants by member Le Khac Hanh in Khoai Tho village, generating an income of 1-1.5 billion VND/year and providing regular employment for 10 workers, thus bringing high economic value... creating a stable, high-quality source of raw materials to meet market demand.

Through the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, the Farmers' Association has helped 110 poor households, newly-escaped-poverty households, and households with difficult circumstances access loans, supplies, and jobs to overcome poverty, contributing to improving the lives of its members. The commune's Farmers' Association manages capital sources, including the commune's Farmers' Support Fund, which operates according to regulations. The management, lending, and recovery of capital are carried out according to procedures and regulations, ensuring safety and increasingly effective and practical use, with 5 projects and 48 borrowing households, totaling 1.8 billion VND in outstanding loans. To date, the total outstanding loan balance of policy capital entrusted through the commune's Farmers' Association has reached 74.5 billion VND, providing loans to 1,263 households for investment in livestock farming, production, business, and job creation.

Not only in economic development, the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance among farmers in Song Lo commune is also clearly demonstrated in disaster prevention and control. In 2024, when Typhoon Yagi hit the area, causing serious damage, the commune's Farmers' Association quickly formed rapid response teams of 120 members. With timely mobilization, more than 3,000 sandbags and over 100 members were urgently deployed to support dike reinforcement in the Tu Yen area. In addition, the teams also assisted people in moving flowers and ornamental plants in the craft village of Khoai Trung (Duc Bac), and harvesting crops when flooded. This demonstrates the solidarity and mutual support of farmers in the commune, in line with the movement's goal of solidarity and mutual assistance.

The movement of farmers competing to excel in production and business has contributed to strengthening the great national unity in Song Lo commune after the merger. With steady steps and a spirit of solidarity, the commune's Farmers' Association is confident in promoting emulation movements, becoming one of the bright spots in sustainable agricultural economic development in the province in the coming time.
