The aspirations of ethnic minority women to rise above adversity.

To help women escape poverty, the Women's Union of Gia Phu commune, Son La province, has made the "Women Helping Each Other Develop Family Economy " movement a solid foundation for many women to overcome difficulties, gradually escape poverty, and build a prosperous life. Beyond providing capital, knowledge, and technical support, the movement is imbued with human kindness, demonstrating genuine sharing among women who share a common aspiration for change.

Thanks to the attention of Party committees and authorities, and the enthusiasm of women's associations at all levels, more and more economic models have been formed, making a positive contribution to sustainable poverty eradication.

Visiting the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Hien in Na Kham village, we encountered a bustling and cheerful atmosphere as the women worked at their looms. Ms. Dinh Thi Hien's model of preserving the traditional brocade weaving craft is providing a stable income for her family.

Having dedicated over 20 years to weaving, Mrs. Hien not only makes her own products but also buys additional items from other women in the village to create souvenirs such as pillows, blouses, chairs, and cushions. Each month, she produces dozens of items, earning an income of 8-10 million VND. These brocade fabrics, crafted by the hands of Muong women, not only preserve the beauty of their culture but also provide a sustainable livelihood for her family.

Leaving Na Kham village, we went to Ben Pha hamlet to visit the garden of Ms. Nguyen Thi Uyen, one of the exemplary figures who rose out of poverty. On an area of 2,600m², she has transformed it into a lush green garden, cultivating it naturally and minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers.

The vegetables in her garden not only serve her family's meals but also provide a regular supply to people within and outside the commune, bringing her hundreds of millions of dong in income each year. Ms. Uyen's model has inspired many households to participate in growing clean vegetables, aiming for a healthy and sustainable life.

The family of Ms. Lo Thi Viet in Bua Chung 2 village is also a shining example in the movement to develop household economies. With a loan guaranteed by the Women's Union, her family boldly invested in a garden-pond-livestock model. From fish farming and fruit tree cultivation to raising pigs and free-range chickens, the model has yielded significant results, generating nearly 200 million VND in income annually. Ms. Viet and her family also know how to utilize crop waste and livestock manure to reduce costs and increase economic efficiency.

Behind these effective economic models lies the persistent efforts of the Gia Phu Commune Women's Union. With 3,259 members operating in 29 branches, the Union always focuses on understanding the needs of each group of women, especially poor and near-poor households.

Helping women access loan capital.

According to Ms. Lo Thi Nguyet, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the commune, through 13 savings and loan groups, the Union has supported 228 households in accessing preferential loans from banks with a total outstanding balance of over 27 billion VND. Members have also saved over 400 million VND, creating additional revolving capital to help disadvantaged women develop their businesses.

The integrated farming model (garden-pond-livestock) has helped many women in Gia Phu commune escape poverty.

"Besides providing financial support, the Association also organizes many training sessions on farming and livestock techniques; guides women on the safe use of fertilizers and pesticides; builds collective economic models; registers OCOP products; participates in digital transformation training courses, promotes products on social media, and helps to sell goods better," Ms. Nguyet said.

In addition, the Association collaborates with various units and businesses to organize job counseling and overseas employment programs, opening up new opportunities for many female workers in the area. These activities, though simple, are very practical and helpful, assisting many families in achieving stable lives and sustainable poverty reduction.

According to Ms. Lo Thi Nguyet, the "Women Helping Each Other Develop Economically" emulation movement in Gia Phu not only brings economic results but also demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, sharing, and the determination of women in the highlands to overcome difficulties. From these economic development models, the movement spreads into a collective strength, helping women aspire to build a prosperous and happy life.
