Next season's V-League may have 2 teams with the same name TP.HCM
Binh Duong Club has sent a document to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), with the hope of considering the proposal to change the team name from Becamex Binh Duong to Becamex TP.HCM. If approved, the name Becamex TP.HCM Club will be used from the 2025-2026 V-League season.
In the document, Binh Duong Club stated that this is a proposal based on the policies of the Party and the State as well as "the trust of fans in the southern region in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular". Since July 1, the two provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau have merged into Ho Chi Minh City (named Ho Chi Minh City). Therefore, Binh Duong Club also wants to change.

If the proposal is approved, there will be two representatives with the same name Ho Chi Minh City participating in the V-League next season. They are Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club (formerly Becamex Binh Duong) and Ho Chi Minh City Club. Currently, there is information that Ho Chi Minh City Club will also change significantly in terms of structure and name in the near future. In the first division, it is not clear whether Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club will take the name Ho Chi Minh City or not, when the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has also become a part of the city named after Uncle Ho.
Including V-League and first division, there are currently 6 football teams headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City. They are Binh Duong Club, Ho Chi Minh City Club (V-League), Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club, Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club, Gia Dinh Club and Van Hien University (first division). Ho Chi Minh City is the place with the most clubs operating in the Vietnamese professional football system.
V-League and first division maps can be changed
It is likely that in the coming years, the map of southern football in particular and Vietnamese football in general will have changes in the names (and even the way of operation) of some football teams due to the merger of provinces and cities.
However, up to now, there are still some provinces and cities that have merged but the football team still keeps its name. That is the case of Nam Dinh Club (the provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh merged to form Ninh Binh, but the Nam Dinh football team has not changed its name), HAGL Club and Binh Dinh Club (the two provinces of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai merged to form Gia Lai, but the Binh Dinh football team temporarily kept its name), Binh Phuoc Club and Dong Nai Club (Binh Phuoc merged with Dong Nai to become Dong Nai province, but the two teams still play in parallel in the first division)...
Binh Duong FC ranked seventh in the 2024-2025 V-League with 32 points after 26 rounds, along with the bronze medal of the National Cup. The team from Thu Dau Mot has changed 3 coaches in just the last season, including Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Nguyen Cong Manh and currently Nguyen Anh Duc. Binh Duong FC has been empty-handed for the past 7 years, since the last time they won the 2018 National Cup under coach Tran Minh Chien.
Binh Duong Club may say goodbye to Que Ngoc Hai, Vo Hoang Minh Khoa... in the transfer window and prepare for a cleanup to renew the squad.
