Da Nang Club plays play-off match with Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc

SHB Da Nang Club won 2-1 against Song Lam Nghe An in round 26 of V-League but could not avoid the second-to-last position and had to play the relegation play-off match with Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc Club.

On the evening of June 22, Da Nang FC entered the final round with the hope of avoiding the play-off spot. The necessary condition is that they win against Song Lam Nghe An, and Quang Nam loses to Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

Despite playing at home ground Tam Ky (borrowed from Quang Nam team), Da Nang Club conceded the first goal to Song Lam Nghe An in the 66th minute. Benjamin Kuku was the one who scored the opening goal.

In the 80th minute, Phan Van Long was very lucky to equalize for Da Nang Club. Van Long's free kick was blocked by Song Lam Nghe An defender and went straight into the net of goalkeeper Cao Van Binh.

With high spirits after the equalizer, the home team increased the score to 2-1 thanks to Nguyen Minh Quang in the 83rd minute. Minh Quang escaped and shot through the opponent's goalkeeper's legs.

The result at Pleiku Stadium further supported Da Nang’s miraculous escape. At that time, Quang Nam Club was leading Hoang Anh Gia Lai 3-2 until the 90+2 minute.

However, a penalty for Quang Nam in the 90+3 minute turned the scenario upside down. Quang Nam equalized 3-3 and earned 1 point, enough to successfully stay in the league at position 12/14 teams.

Despite the win, Da Nang FC could not escape the second-to-last position with 25 points after 26 rounds. Coach Le Duc Tuan and his team had to go to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in the relegation play-off match this season.

Da Nang’s opponent is the runner-up in the first division, Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc. The relegation play-off match took place on the evening of June 26 at Thong Nhat Stadium, with two foreign referees in charge.
