Speaking to the press on October 25th about the assault at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan praised and highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and courage of the female nurses in the hospital's neonatal ward.

At the same time, the Minister stated that he had directly instructed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with the police and local authorities to clarify the incident and strictly punish those who attacked medical staff.

The Ministry of Health is reviewing all security measures in hospitals, especially in sensitive areas such as emergency rooms, neonatal wards, and psychiatric wards.

According to Ms. Lan, although the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment strictly prohibits acts of violence against medical staff, in reality "incidents of violence against medical staff still occur".

She said that violence against healthcare workers (including doctors, nurses, etc.) is a "very serious problem" in the industry and seriously affects hospital safety and security, as well as the health and lives of healthcare workers and other patients and their families.

Over the past 10 years, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Security have implemented Coordination Regulation No. 03 to ensure security and order in hospitals, which has yielded positive results.

The Ministry of Health's stance is that when acts of assault against healthcare workers occur, the perpetrators should be severely punished to serve as a deterrent.

At the same time, the head of the health sector reminded patients' families and the public that doctors/medical staff are performing their duties, and in emergency situations, they must prioritize treating critically ill patients. They need understanding and respect, and should avoid actions that cause distress, assault, or violence against the very doctors who are striving to save patients.

Minister Dao Hong Lan emphasized: "Medical staff must be protected under any circumstances."

To recognize, commend, and promptly encourage the courageous actions of the nurses in the Neonatal Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in intervening and protecting the safety of patients and their families in critical situations, on October 24th, the Ministry of Health issued a decision to award the Minister of Health's commendation certificate to the collective and four individuals.
