Sharing with the press on October 25 about the assault incident at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan sent words of praise and appreciation for the sense of responsibility and bravery of the female nurses at the hospital's neonatal department.

At the same time, the Minister said he had directly instructed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with police agencies and local authorities to clarify the incident and strictly handle the subject who attacked the medical staff.

The Ministry of Health is reviewing all security work in hospitals, especially in sensitive areas such as emergency rooms, neonatal and psychiatric rooms...

According to Ms. Lan, although the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment strictly prohibits acts of abuse against medical staff, in reality "incidents of violence against medical staff still occur."

She said violence against medical staff (including doctors, nurses, etc.) is a "very painful problem" in the industry and seriously affects hospital security and safety, the health and lives of medical staff as well as patients and their families.

In recent times, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Security have had coordination regulation No. 03 to ensure security and order in hospitals, which has been implemented for more than 10 years and has brought about positive results.

The Ministry of Health's viewpoint suggests that when assaults on medical staff occur, the subjects should be strictly handled to serve as a deterrent.

At the same time, the head of the health sector reminded the patients' families and the people that: doctors/medical staff are on duty, in emergency situations must prioritize the treatment of critically ill patients and need sympathy, respect, and avoid behaviors and actions that cause anger, assault, and violence towards the very doctors who are trying to treat patients.

Minister Dao Hong Lan emphasized: "Medical staff must be protected in any case."

To recognize, commend and promptly encourage the brave actions, prevention and protection of patients and their families in critical situations by nurses at the neonatal department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, on October 24, the Ministry of Health decided to award certificates of merit from the Minister of Health to the collective and four individuals.
