Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club has just signed contracts with 6 foreign players to compete in the 2025-2026 AFC Champions League Women's group stage, starting next month at Thong Nhat Stadium.

Accordingly, coach Doan Thi Kim Chi chose central defender Aubrey Goodwill (1.8m), Gorman Chloe (1.65m), midfielder Sakura Yoshida, Tatiana Mason (USA), left-back Ouni Samia (Tunisia) and striker Maria Khan (Pakistan) to strengthen the squad.

Among them are 4 foreign players who played for Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in last year's tournament: Tatiana Mason (group stage), Aubrey Goodwill, Sakura Yoshida and Maria Khan (semi-finals).

Two new foreign players promise quality

The two new foreign players of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club are Ouni Samia and Gorman Chloe. Ouni Samia is a Tunisian player, who won the 2023-2024 Saudi Arabia Women's Football Championship with Al-Nassr Club. Gorman Allen played for Aalborg BK Club (Denmark) last season.

This is the first time that Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club has "played big" by hiring up to 6 foreign players like that. Because last season, Coach Doan Thi Kim Chi's team only hired at most 4 foreign players, to play the semi-final match with host Wuhan Jiangda (China).

But unfortunately, due to injury, Maria Khan could not play in this match, causing the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club to not have the best force and lose 0-2 to Wuhan Jiangda.

Hiring 6 foreign players not only makes the most of the foreign player registration slots allowed by the tournament's regulations, but also helps coach Doan Thi Kim Chi fill in the positions that the HCMC Women's Club is lacking.

Coach Kim Chi said that all 6 foreign players only signed a short-term contract of 2 months to practice and compete in the group stage. Depending on the performance of each foreign player, and whether the team advances or not, there will be an agreement to sign a new contract.

The 46-year-old coach shared: "We are very happy that the leaders allowed us to hire 6 foreign players to compete in the continental arena.

We base on the team's situation, if there is a missing position, we will try to supplement it to play well. Besides, we need to have a good force to pass the group stage when this year's opponents are all very strong."

HCMC Women's Club in Group A will meet Stallion Laguna (Philippines, November 13), Lion City Sailors (Singapore, November 16), Melbourne City (Australia, November 19). The top two teams in each group and the two third-placed teams with the best results in the three groups will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Coach Kim Chi and her team are currently training in Ho Chi Minh City. The team is scheduled to have a training trip in Hanoi from October 27 to November 5 to prepare for the tournament.

In Hanoi, the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club will have two quality friendly matches with the Vietnam Women's Team at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center before returning to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in the tournament.
