The Peri 9-Ball Open 2023 billiards tournament has officially opened at Peri Pool Arena (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi ).

With a total prize pool of 104,000 USD, the Peri 9-Ball Open is one of two World 9-Ball Tour ranking points tournaments in Hanoi, along with the Hanoi Open Pool Championship taking place immediately after (from October 10 to 15 at My Dinh Indoor Athletics Stadium) and is decisive for the Mosconi Cup spots.

The importance of the Peri 9-Ball Open billiards has made the tournament a gathering place for world- famous players such as Shane van Boening, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Fedor Gorst, reigning European Open champion David Alcaide, two world champions James Aranas and Johan Chua, Billy Thorpe, Mario He...

European champion David Alcaide makes a mistake

Besides the international 9-ball billiards names, Peri 9-Ball Open also became the first tournament with the participation of many players who have a position in the Vietnamese 9-ball billiards community such as Nguyen Anh Tuan, Luong Duc Thien or Do The Kien, Dang Thanh Kien, Nguyen Phuc Long, Bui Truong An.

On the first day of the winner-loser bracket, the confrontation between Dang Thanh Kien and David Alcaide was as exciting and dramatic as expected. The two players brought the match to the most intense level of billiards - the hill hill game. Alcaide had the right to clear and pocket the number 1 target ball. However, a mistake in the situation where the number 2 ball was pocketed caused the reigning European champion to give the victory to Dang Thanh Kien.

Meanwhile, Do The Kien suffered a regrettable defeat against World Cup of Pool champion James Aranas. Playing on par with the Filipino player, even going up the hill first, Do The Kien still suffered an 8-9 defeat and had to find a chance in the loser's bracket.

Players participating in the tournament

The first day of Peri Open also went sweetly for 17-year-old Luong Dinh Phuc, who worked many jobs to earn enough money and rode a motorbike over 300 km from Mong Cai - Quang Ninh to Hanoi to attend the qualifying round.

In the final qualifying match to be able to participate in the tournament, Phuc unfortunately had to accept a 7-9 defeat. In order to encourage this young talent, as well as fuel his passion, the Peri Open organizers gave Phuc a Wildcard match at the Peri Open.

In the winner-loser bracket, Dinh Phuc lost to Kyle Amoroto with a score of 4-9. In the loser bracket, this young player excellently defeated Nguyen Duc Dung (8-6) to keep his hope of entering the playoff alive.

In addition to the highly professional matches, the tournament is also an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese players such as Nguyen Quang Viet (American nationality), and player Luong Van Nam, from Do Luong, Nghe An, who has lived in Taipei, China for more than 10 years, to visit their homeland and register to compete.

Tomorrow, October 6, the Peri 9-Ball Open continues to be awaited when world 9-ball billiards stars Shane van Boening, Skyler Woodward, Max Lechner, Fedor Gorst, Anthony Raga compete.
