Accordingly, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is an administrative organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister in state management of tourism and organizing the enforcement of tourism laws nationwide, and managing public services on tourism in accordance with the provisions of law.
Vietnam National Tourism Administration has legal status, a seal with the national emblem and headquarters in Hanoi city.
English transaction name: Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism. English abbreviation: VNAT.
The Decision clearly states that, regarding transitional regulations, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism inherits the tasks and powers of the General Department of Tourism according to the provisions of law and international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member until the competent authority issues or amends and supplements relevant legal provisions.
The General Director of the General Department of Tourism is responsible for carrying out the procedures for merging the Tourism Magazine into the Institute for Tourism Development Research in accordance with the provisions of law and completing them before the effective date of this Decision.
Previously, Decree 01/2023/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on January 16, stipulating the National Tourism Administration to replace the current General Department of Tourism.
Decree 01/2023/ND-CP takes effect from February 20, replacing Decree No. 79/2017/ND-CP dated July 17, 2017 of the Government stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Thus, according to Decision No. 1536/QD-BVHTTDL, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has officially had a new name, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, after many changes and mergers.
The General Department of Tourism was established under Resolution 262NQ/QHK6 dated June 27, 1978 of the National Assembly Standing Committee, under the Government Council.
The 9th session of the 8th National Assembly on August 12, 1991 passed a resolution to merge the General Department of Tourism into the Ministry of Trade and Tourism.
On October 26, 1992, the Government issued Decree No. 05-CP establishing the General Department of Tourism as an agency under the Government.
From July 31, 2007 to present, the General Department of Tourism has been merged into the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, according to the provisions of Resolution No. 01/2007 of the National Assembly.
