Three years after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the British Royal Family will open a special exhibition at Buckingham Palace, recreating the fashion legacy of the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
The exhibition, titled “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style”, will run at The King's Gallery from April 10 to October 18, 2026, and promises to be one of the biggest cultural highlights of the coming year.
“Queen Elizabeth II’s wardrobe is a textbook example of British iconography, tailoring and craftsmanship,” says curator Caroline de Guitaut.
The exhibition “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style” showcases 200 outfits that have been associated with the Queen's 96-year life, and up to 50% of them have never been displayed before.
Every dress, blouse, or scarf is a piece of history - telling the story of a woman who turned fashion into a language of power, devotion, and British identity.
In addition, many of the design sketches are hand-annotated, and even include a few notes from the Queen herself, giving viewers a rare glimpse into her aesthetic thinking and private personality.
Visitors will be able to admire the stunning apple-green evening gown designed by Norman Hartnell, worn by the Queen at a state banquet at the British Embassy in the United States in 1957; along with her wedding dress and coronation gown - two symbols of a glorious reign.
The exhibition also features the bridesmaid dress she wore in 1934, her riding outfits, signature silk scarves and, most notably, the transparent plastic raincoat created by designer Hardy Amies in the 1960s – a design “ahead of its time” in style and material.
Queen Elizabeth II will pass away in September 2022, ending 70 years of reign. Tickets for an exhibition on her fashion legacy will go on sale from November 4 (local time)./.
