In the port area of Squadron 102, Coast Guard Region 1 Command, amidst the roaring engine noise and the smell of engine oil, it is easy to recognize the tall, agile figure, bright eyes, and always radiant smile of Captain Ha Van Duc, Deputy Technical Squadron Leader.

Many enthusiastic initiatives

Born and raised in Duc Chau commune, Nghe An province - a coastal area with a rich tradition of learning and revolution, Ha Van Duc longed to serve in the military. His path of study was a persistent effort. Graduating with honors from the Military Technical Academy in 2017, majoring in ship machinery, he was assigned to Squadron 102.

From the first days of taking on the position of head of the electromechanical department on the CSB 1011 ship and then the CSB 2006 ship, Ha Van Duc quickly affirmed his professional capacity and sense of responsibility.

Every "breath" of the ship has urged Ha Van Duc to explore and research. Not stopping at operation, he always wondered: why does this device often break down? Why does that system become unstable? How to optimize the working capacity of the machine? Those questions have led him to the path of scientific research - a difficult path but he always pursues it with the passion of a young engineer.

Captain Ha Van Duc - Deputy Technical Captain of Squadron 102, Coast Guard Region 1 Command

Over the years, he has been the author of many scientific works of high practical value, published at prestigious conferences and specialized journals, such as: "Determining the pulling capacity of TT-400 ship by theory and experiment" (2017); "Research on the influence of diesel/hydrogen fuel mixture on technical performance and NOx of diesel engines" (2022); "Calculation of heat exchange and pressure loss in plate-type condenser" (2024); the article "Research on determining technical performance and emissions of gasoline engines when using dual fuel ammonia - gasoline", published in 2025. Each study not only brings theoretical value but also has the ability to be applied in practical ship engineering.

In parallel with scientific research, Ha Van Duc also has many technical innovation initiatives originating from practical requirements, such as: designing display devices - warning of ship's longitudinal and transverse tilt; engine combustion chamber cleaning equipment using hydrogen gas technology; welding condenser tightness testing system and applying ultrasonic waves to clean tubular welding condensers; designing rubber gasket punching tools; researching to eliminate the phenomenon of "hammering" (water hammering) of liquid in pipes on coast guard ships; cleaning robots, scraping barnacles from ship hulls; punching devices, attaching military ranks... Each initiative is a passion and effort of a young officer who is always struggling with the question: "How to make the equipment operate more effectively, more safely, more economically?".

The exemplary commander

Not only is Ha Van Duc good at his profession, he is also an exemplary commander. He directly works with the troops to inspect and handle complex technical problems; while working, he also imparts his experience to young officers. His training sessions on recognizing abnormal signals and handling incidents at sea help new soldiers feel more confident when entering the engine room.

Officers and soldiers of Squadron 102 commented that Captain Duc is a commander with deep expertise, high responsibility, sincere life and always motivates the team. Every time the ship has problems with machinery, technical equipment or professional difficulties, he is always there in time, working with his teammates to find solutions and solutions.

Outside of work, the deputy technical captain of Squadron 102 is always sociable, close, always knows how to listen and share with his teammates. He shared: "No matter how hard or stressful technical work is, as long as we unite and support each other, all difficulties can be overcome."

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dinh Huy, Head of Logistics - Engineering of Coast Guard Region 1 Command, assessed Captain Ha Van Duc as a technical officer with strong political will, good professional qualifications, always enthusiastic and dedicated to technical work. "Comrade Duc is very eager to learn and progress. The topics and initiatives he has implemented have high practical applicability, contributing to improving the quality of ensuring technical work at the unit" - Lieutenant Colonel Huy said.

With a sense of responsibility, solid professional capacity and persistent dedication, Captain Ha Van Duc has been recognized with many noble awards: 3 titles of Advanced Soldier (2013, 2014, 2016); 4 titles of Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level (2015, 2017, 2022, 2024); Certificate of Merit from Army Officer School 1 and Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of National Defense. This is a worthy recognition for the young engineer's spirit of dedication, and at the same time, a motivation for him to continue to strive, innovate, and contribute to keeping Coast Guard ships steady at the forefront of the storm.

Now, as Deputy Technical Captain of Squadron 102, Captain Ha Van Duc is even more aware of his responsibilities. He continues to ponder, research, and apply new technical advances, proactively train the next generation, and contribute to building Squadron 102 into an increasingly strong, "exemplary, and exemplary" overall force.

Amidst the salty breath of the ocean, amidst the ready-to-move engines of ships that guard the peace of the Fatherland day and night, the image of young engineer Ha Van Duc is still steadfast, silently beside the "hearts of steel".

Captain Ha Van Duc shared: "The engine room is the "heart" of the ship. Only when that "heart" operates strongly and rhythmically can the ship stand firm against the storm and complete all assigned tasks well."
