According to information from the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), thanks to the urgent efforts of units under the Northern Power Corporation, by the morning of September 16th, 1,626 out of 1,678 medium-voltage power lines damaged by the storm had been restored to operation.

As of this morning, September 16th, electricity has been restored to over 5.98 million customers out of approximately 6.1 million affected by the storm and floods (corresponding to 98%).
Power companies in the North are continuing to urgently mobilize manpower, vehicles, materials, and equipment to try to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and restore electricity supply to customers affected by storms and floods as quickly as possible, while still ensuring safety requirements.
To quickly mitigate the consequences of the natural disaster and urgently restore electricity supply to customers affected by the storm and floods, the Central Power Corporation has sent a total of 273 people (from 6 power companies including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam , and Quang Ngai) and the Hanoi Power Corporation has sent a total of 100 people to Quang Ninh province to support the restoration of the power grid.
Due to the influence of the post-typhoon circulation of Typhoon No. 3, a large volume of water has flowed into hydroelectric reservoirs. Hydroelectric reservoirs in the North are currently opening their spillway gates to regulate water levels according to the instructions of the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and the Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Control of provinces/cities.
The Lai Chau, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang, Son La, and Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoirs have closed all their spillway gates as directed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development . The following hydroelectric reservoirs were releasing water at 8:00 AM on September 16th: Tuyen Quang (1 gate), Thac Ba (2 gates), Trung Son (3 gates), and Ban Ve (3 gates).
The 500 kV high-voltage power grid has fully restored all 14/14 outages; the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) reported that the 500 kV circuit 3 line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi (a project inaugurated on August 29, 2024) was unaffected and basically undamaged by Typhoon Yagi. Recently, the 500 kV power line sections affected by Typhoon Yagi were mainly concentrated in the provinces/cities of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.
The 220kV power grid has restored power in 39 out of 40 incidents; 10 out of 10 220kV substations have been restored. The 110kV power grid has restored power in 184 out of 190 incidents, and 101 out of 104 110kV substations have been restored and put into operation.
Previously, due to the impact of strong winds and storms, many power lines and distribution substations in numerous provinces and cities in the North experienced malfunctions. The aftermath of Typhoon No. 3 caused heavy rain and flooding in 17 northern provinces (Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Bac Kan, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong), resulting in power outages for many customers. In addition to grid damage, many areas were deeply flooded, forcing temporary shutdowns to ensure customer safety.
