On the evening of September 13, in Can Tho city, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the US Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam and the Can Tho City People's Committee jointly organized the Vietnam-US Friendship Exchange Program.
The event marks an important milestone in the development of diplomatic relations and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and is a meaningful activity, promoting cultural exchange between Can Tho city and the United States, creating a premise for exchange activities, and learning about the cultural beauty between the two countries.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, emphasized that the Vietnam-US Friendship Exchange Program promotes the role of people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to effectively implementing the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development.
Along with the 30-year journey of developing Vietnam-US relations, the cooperative relationship between Can Tho city and US partners has been constantly strengthened and expanded, making practical contributions to common development, laying the foundation for cooperation between localities of the two countries.

According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, in recent years, the cooperation between Can Tho City and localities and US partners has had many outstanding results: export turnover to the US in the first 6 months of 2025 reached more than 228 million USD, mainly rice, seafood, processed agricultural products, garments, handicrafts, etc.
The city has 4 FDI projects invested from direct capital from the United States. NGO projects with aid capital from the United States in areas such as education, housing support, livelihood stabilization, bridge and rural road construction, and climate change adaptation have contributed to the city's socio-economic development.
In addition, many international cooperation agreements have been signed, especially the cooperation program with the city of Riverside, California with 3 main areas of cooperation: health, agriculture and education and training.
Ms. Melissa A Brown, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Vietnam-US Friendship Exchange Program is a testament to the strength of the partnership between the two countries and the vibrant connection between the people of the two countries.
“I am particularly pleased that the event is being held in the Mekong Delta region, where we celebrate the meaningful work that is taking place there. Today’s event is a great example of how our two countries are creating opportunities to learn and collaborate together. It demonstrates that our partnership is not just about cooperation between governments, but also about people-to-people ties,” said Melissa A Brown.

The Vietnam-US Friendship Exchange Program attracted a large number of people to participate in cultural and sports exchanges, folk games, visits to booths displaying Vietnamese and US culture and cuisine and achievements in Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, introduction of Can Tho city, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-US Association, the US Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam, activities of non-governmental organizations, and Vietnamese-US businesses.
