General Phan Van Giang holds talks with Slovakian Deputy Prime Minister

On the morning of November 18, in Hanoi, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, presided over the welcoming ceremony for Mr. Robert Kalinak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Slovakia, on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the talks after the welcoming ceremony, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Mr. Robert Kalinak's official visit to Vietnam is of great significance in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950 - 2025), creating new momentum for bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the active and effective implementation of defense cooperation commitments agreed upon by both sides.

General Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Slovakia. The Vietnamese people are always grateful for Slovakia's assistance during the past struggle for national independence and reunification and the current national development and international integration. Despite the geographical distance, the two countries still have much room and potential for cooperation in all fields, including defense.

At the talks, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern. General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam firmly adheres to the "four no's" defense policy and wishes to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect for common interests, contributing to maintaining peace , stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

General Phan Van Giang suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to promote defense cooperation commensurate with the good development and increasingly close relationship between the two countries, focusing on the following areas: exchanging delegations, establishing cooperation mechanisms to enhance mutual understanding and exchanging measures to promote cooperation; hoping that Mr. Robert Kalinak will pay attention and soon send a Slovakian defense attaché to Vietnam, to act as a bridge to help effectively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon by the two sides.

Promote cooperation in training, in which the Slovakian Ministry of Defense is expected to consider accepting Vietnamese soldiers to participate in training courses in the Slovak language and in specialized fields that Slovakia has strengths in; strengthen cooperation in the defense industry; seek cooperation opportunities in other potential areas such as cyber security, mine clearance, and response to non-traditional challenges...

The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready to receive Slovak soldiers to learn Vietnamese and participate in international defense official courses.

On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang invited Mr. Robert Kalinak, along with leaders of the agency in charge of defense industry cooperation and Slovakian defense industry enterprises, to attend the 3rd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition, scheduled to be held at the end of 2026.

Mr. Robert Kalinak affirmed the long-standing traditional relationship between Vietnam and Slovakia, expressed his joy at the results of defense cooperation between the two countries and agreed to send a Slovakian defense attaché to Vietnam.

At the same time, he proposed that the two sides strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense industry, delegation exchange, and cyber security at all levels.
