As of November 8th, the Republican Party had won at least 211 seats, seven fewer than needed to secure a majority in the 435-seat House of Representatives. Currently, 24 seats are still being counted. Previously, Trump's party had secured a majority in the Senate, winning 53 out of 100 seats.
The Democrats have currently secured only 199 seats in the House of Representatives. The results of the House election may take a few more days to be announced.

With the Republican Party likely to control both houses of Congress, President-elect Donald Trump will be in a position to pursue his policies, including comprehensive tax cuts, deregulation of energy, and border security.
The Democratic Party needs to win 18 of the remaining 24 seats to control the House of Representatives. Their hopes were raised by their success in winning traditional swing states like California and New York.
A majority in the Senate would allow Republicans to pass appointments to cabinet members, judges, and other personnel for Trump's new administration. However, they would not have the 60 votes needed to quickly pass most legislation.
