Two bridges worth over 500 billion VND are under construction to "share the burden" on National Highway 1A.

TPO - The construction of two new bridges across Gianh River and Quan Hau Bridge on National Highway 1A through Quang Binh Province will "share the burden" of the two existing bridges that often experience congestion when traffic incidents occur.

The bridge crosses Gianh River at Km 625+733 and the approach roads through Bo Trach district and Ba Don town ( Quang Binh province).

The project has a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND, belonging to the Project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1A, invested by the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport, now the Ministry of Construction ).

The old Gianh Bridge is 746.4 m long with 9 spans, 12 m wide, completed and put into use since the end of 1998. After a period of use, the road surface on the bridge has been rutted, the speed of cars passing over the bridge is 50 km/h. The expansion project will upgrade the bridge to be 12 m wider, the maximum designed speed is 80 km/h.

According to the construction unit, the geological conditions at the bottom of the Gianh River for drilling the bridge are not complicated, and the water flow is normal . At this time, the unit has drilled piles up to 60m deep and cast the piers for the construction of the prestressed reinforced concrete bridge. In the image, the project unit has to use large barges to transport the bridge piers to the middle of the river for construction.

At the construction site of the road leading to the bridge on the South bank, the site was basically handed over to the contractor early by the locality, so the contractor focused on filling the soil, spreading geotextile... to prepare for the construction of cement piles.

Along with that, the project of the approach roads at both ends of the bridge and Quan Hau bridge across Nhat Le river connecting Quan Hau town and Vo Ninh commune in Quang Ninh district with a total investment of more than 200 billion VND is also under construction, on time for handover and put into operation at the end of 2025.

Engineer Dang Tran Trung Kien (project implementation unit) said that Quan Hau bridge will be expanded in a 2-year phase parallel to the old bridge center at a distance of 15.5m, the edge of the 2 bridges is 3.5m upstream. The bridge has 9 spans, the bridge surface is 12m wide, the design speed is 80km/h.

Quan Hau Bridge is 549 m long and 12 m wide. Construction began in 1996 and was completed in 2000. After a long period of use with increased traffic volume, the bridge surface has become rutted. The management unit has also put up many warning signs about speed and vehicle weight on the bridge.

At the construction site, there are more than 60 people including engineers and workers divided into construction teams such as: temporary bridge team, bored pile construction team, iron making team...

The project implementation unit built a temporary bridge leading to the middle of the bridge to transport materials and concrete from inside the bank to the pillars.

Currently, workers are erecting the concrete structure of the bridge piers. When completed and put into operation, Gianh and Quan Hau bridges will share the burden of the two existing bridges, which often experience traffic congestion when traffic collisions occur.

At the same time, gradually invest in completing National Highway 1 according to the plan, synchronous in scale, maximizing the efficiency of expansion investment, resolving bottlenecks, reducing congestion, enhancing traffic safety, promoting socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security.
