According to the Ministry of Transport, the investment in expanding and completing the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway aims to reduce traffic congestion and form a complete traffic network in the Southern key economic region.

At the same time, gradually complete the expressway network in the Mekong Delta region, contributing to meeting the transportation needs from the Western provinces to Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region and other provinces and cities nationwide.

The expressway starts at Cho Dem intersection, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City; ends at the northern end of My Thuan 2 bridge, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province. The total length of the route is more than 96km.

In which, the section from Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong: from Cho Dem - Ring Road 4 has a scale of 12 lanes, from Ring Road 4 - Trung Luong has a scale of 10 lanes, designed speed of 120km/h. The route is implemented in investment phases, phase 1 is built with a scale of 8 lanes.

The Trung Luong - My Thuan section is designed for a speed of 100km/h, with a scale of 6 lanes.

The project is expected to be implemented from 2024 to 2028 with a total preliminary investment of about 39,800 billion VND.
