Within the framework of the Tokyo International Film Festival 2025, the Vietnam Film Promotion Association (VFDA) in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan organized a series of large-scale promotional activities including the workshop “Vietnam on screen: Regional voice - Global reach”, Vietnam Night and a booth promoting Vietnamese cinema at the film market. This is the first time Vietnam has been present at an A-class film festival with an independent, professional and unique space.

At the conference held on October 30, domestic and foreign speakers affirmed that "cooperation" is the key for Vietnamese cinema to reach the regional level. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of VFDA, Director of Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), emphasized that Vietnamese cinema is rising strongly, box office revenue has exceeded pre-pandemic levels and the market share of Vietnamese films will reach 44% in 2024. Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu said that cinema is a soft power that promotes tourism , investment and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Many international producers from Japan, Canada, and Indonesia have expressed their desire to cooperate with Vietnam in upcoming film projects. Localities such as Da Nang , Quang Ninh, and Dien Bien share the “one-stop-shop” policy to support film crews, reduce costs at historical sites and scenic spots, and develop a digital database of culture and tourism to serve production.

The Vietnam Night event, a series of activities promoting Vietnamese cinema in Japan, also gathered more than 350 international guests, including Japanese parliamentarians, leaders of film associations, directors, actors and businessmen from both countries. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan emphasized that Vietnam Night is a symbol of Vietnamese cinema's aspiration to reach international standards. Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu assessed the event as a valuable forum connecting the Vietnamese and Japanese filmmaking communities, opening up many opportunities for co-production.
The Vietnamese booth at the film market attracted a large number of international visitors. The exhibition space introduced the film crew attraction index and prominent settings such as Ha Long Bay, Son Tra, Moc Chau, Pa Khoang... Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan said that this is a new step to help Vietnam become an attractive destination for global film producers.
