A new landslide appeared in Thuong Tan 2 hamlet close to DT 746 road.

Through observation, the landslide area is quite large, eating deep into the foundation of DT 746 road. The height from the road surface to the river water level is more than 10 meters. About 10 meters away, a temporary house of the people also had a landslide down to the foundation.

Mr. Vo Van Tham, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Tan Commune, said that DT 746 is the main road connecting Thuong Tan Commune with other localities. If the landslide situation on the Dong Nai Riverbank continues as in the past, it will seriously affect this road and affect people's lives.

According to Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Head of the Economic , Infrastructure and Urban Department of Thuong Tan Commune, the Dong Nai River section flowing through the commune is about 23km long, but there are many landslides, of which the two most serious are in Thuong Tan 1 Hamlet and Lac An 3 Hamlet.

Plan to build embankment to prevent landslides

Mr. Tran Van Tuan added that in the commune, there is a project to compensate and support the relocation of households in areas at risk of landslides along the Dong Nai River (the section belonging to Lac An commune before, now Thuong Tan commune, Ho Chi Minh City), in which 56 households and individuals are affected. Currently, the first phase of the project's compensation, support and resettlement plan has been approved for 22 households and individuals.

Up to now, compensation and support have been paid to 16/22 households and individuals with the amount of more than 14.4 billion VND; the remaining 6/22 households and individuals have not agreed to receive compensation and support with the amount of more than 5 billion VND.

For the remaining 34 households and individuals, the Northern Tan Uyen Regional Land Fund Development Center Branch has coordinated with the investor to continue to conduct inventory, apply compensation prices and recover land according to the approved project.

However, through the preliminary survey results, it was found that the Dong Nai riverside area has about 20 households and individuals at high risk of landslides but are not included in the compensation project. Regarding this, the local government has surveyed and reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to register a public investment plan for the period 2026-2030 to implement the project of relocating the remaining households and building embankments to prevent landslides.

The People's Committee of Thuong Tan Commune proposed that the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City promptly direct the survey and assessment of landslide risks in order to promptly implement the project with the reason of accurately assessing the landslide risks to promptly relocate households, ensuring the safety of life and property. The construction of anti-erosion embankments is also a solution to contribute to the stable development of waterway traffic infrastructure on the Dong Nai River.
