Innovation to improve the quality of primary education

In the 2024-2025 school year, Bai Chay Primary School (Ha Long City) has 53 classes with a total of 1,955 students, studying 2 sessions/day. The whole school has 85 staff, teachers, and employees, of which 98.8% of teachers have standard and above-standard qualifications. In recent years, the school has always been highly appreciated for its quality. This school year alone, participating in the final round of the city-level "Mind Map" competition, 3 students of the school won high prizes (including 2 first prizes). Besides, the school has 4 teachers who have achieved the title of excellent teachers at the provincial level and 8 excellent homeroom teachers at the city level.

Observing a Vietnamese lesson in class 2A9, Bai Chay Primary School (Ha Long City) taught by teacher Nguyen Thi Hien using the mind map method, we noticed that the students were very interested in the subject. During the lesson, instead of just using textbooks, Ms. Hien also used additional supporting materials such as pictures, photos, colored pencils and television to teach lesson 25 on speaking and listening to the story of Saint Giong. The lesson was therefore more lively, and the teacher and students interacted more effectively. Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien shared: The mind map method draws out concise lessons, helping students deepen their knowledge. Children can think visually, which is also the initial basis for forming their paragraph writing and paragraph linking skills.

Teacher Le Thi Thanh Huong, Principal of Bai Chay Primary School, said: This school year, the school continues to promote teaching and learning by applying active teaching methods and techniques in teaching, especially using mind maps to teach students' learning activities to help students understand deeply, remember longer and be more proactive in the learning process, develop logical and systematic thinking, and increase creativity. The school also actively applies digital transformation in teaching and learning such as OLM, AI, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet software, etc.

In general, primary education is increasingly receiving attention and has changed a lot compared to before. According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training at the beginning of the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year, the whole province has 220 primary schools (4,186 classes with 123,550 primary school students) . Of which, there are 153 primary schools; 67 inter-level schools. The Primary School Excellent Teacher Competition for the 2024-2025 school year honored 38 teachers with outstanding achievements; awarded certificates to 377 teachers with the title of Provincial Excellent Primary School Teacher.

Since November 2024, 100% of primary school students in the province have studied 2 sessions/day (exceeding the 1-year target according to Action Program No. 01-CTr/TU dated October 9, 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee on implementing the Resolution of the 15th Quang Ninh Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025).

To do that, since the beginning of the school year, the sector has actively focused on arranging and organizing schools and classes; having plans for early recruitment of primary school teachers, English teachers, IT teachers, and physical education teachers. In particular, priority is given to primary school teacher contracts, ensuring reasonable rotation of teaching staff, arranging inter-school teachers for specific subjects; mobilizing resources to invest in facilities for schools.

Schools also promote the review of curriculum and lesson content, rationally develop topics, and integrate interdisciplinary and intra-disciplinary subjects. At the same time, apply information technology, organize online teaching forms between schools and classes (ensuring that the proportion of General Education Program content implemented online reaches an average of 5% at the primary level). In particular, coordinate with Ha Long University and training institutions to train and develop teachers (such as IT teachers).

It can be seen that in the 2024-2025 school year, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ninh province continues to affirm its position with many outstanding achievements, especially at the primary level.
