Swimming team won 2 gold medals, ranked fourth in Asian championship

VHO - The Vietnamese swimming team's swimmers have just competed very successfully at the 2025 Asian Swimming Championship in India, winning 2 gold medals to finish fourth overall.

The tournament is an important professional test for the players before they continue to compete at the National Championship and SEA Games 33.

Nguyen Huy Hoang is an important swimmer of the team and has lived up to expectations by winning 2 gold medals.

In the 800m freestyle event, Huy Hoang brought home the gold medal for the Vietnamese swimming team with a time of 7 minutes 57 seconds 58, ahead of Sibirtsev (Uzbekistan) with a time of 8 minutes 00 seconds 37 and Haibo Xu (China) with a time of 8 minutes 02 seconds 34.

Previously, in the men's 1,500m freestyle event, Huy Hoang also excellently won gold medal with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01, bringing a historic gold medal to Vietnamese swimming at the continental arena.

With two consecutive victories in long distance events, Huy Hoang became the first Vietnamese swimmer to win a "double gold" at an Asian championship.

Previously, the swimmer from Quang Tri was the only male athlete to win medals at the continental level with 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games and 2 bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Games.

Besides Huy Hoang, the young face of the Vietnamese swimming team - Nguyen Kha Nhi won silver medal in the women's 400m freestyle with a time of 4 minutes 25 seconds 50.

The remarkable point of this tournament for the Vietnamese swimming team is that for the first time, the swimmers won a bronze medal in the mixed 4x100m relay event by Tran Hung Nguyen, Pham Thanh Bao, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Thuy Hien with a time of 3 minutes 55 seconds 97.

In the end, the Vietnamese swimming team ranked fourth with 2 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals. This is the first time Vietnamese swimming has achieved this position at a continental championship level tournament.

First place is the Chinese team with 28 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 2 bronze medals; second place is Japan with 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 4 bronze medals; third place belongs to Hong Kong (China) with 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 6 bronze medals.
