Vietnam national team gathers, coach Philippe Troussier calls up 33 players

Today (June 2), head coach Philippe Troussier officially announced the personnel selection for the FIFA Days gathering in June 2023 of the Vietnam team, with 33 names summoned.

Unlike the gathering last March, which was only meant to help the players warm up and get used to the new ideas in the playing style of the new French head coach.

During this training session, the Vietnamese team will participate in two international friendly matches, one against Hong Kong (China) on June 15 at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong and the other against Syria on June 20 at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh.

According to the list, the mainstays of the national team such as Dang Van Lam, Doan Van Hau, Do Duy Manh, Nguyen Hoang Duc... are all present.

Besides prioritizing experienced players who are performing well in the V-League, coach Philippe Troussier also expanded the list to give opportunities to new players.

Notably, midfielder Le Pham Thanh Long, who is playing very well for Dong A Thanh Hoa, or Bui Van Duc of Hong Linh Ha Tinh, a Muong player known for his versatile playing style and strong physical strength.

In addition, on the occasion of FIFA Days, coach Philippe Troussier also proposed to call up 3 players playing abroad to return to join the national team.

They are Nguyen Quang Hai (Pau Club, France), Nguyen Van Toan (Seoul E-Land Club, Korea) and Nguyen Cong Phuong (Yokohama Club, Japan).

However, in this training session, the team also has some regrettable absences such as midfielder Do Hung Dung (recently underwent appendix surgery), Phan Van Duc (injured), Nguyen Van Quyet (out of competition due to suspension)...

In addition, fans will also witness the return of names who were previously in the U23 Vietnam team such as Truong Tien Anh, Lam Ti Phong, Trieu Viet Hung...

Another name that has attracted attention is Schmidt Adriano. This Vietnamese-American central defender, whose Vietnamese name is Bui Duc Duy, was called up to the national team for the first time in March 2022 but has not had many opportunities to show his talent.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will gather again starting from June 5. However, because many players are still busy with the schedule of round 11 of V-League 2023, coach Philippe Troussier will not have the full squad until June 7.
