According to experts, although pepper prices have fallen after the US imposed retaliatory tariffs on other countries, if the supply from major producing countries does not improve soon, the world market could enter a period of shortage – especially given the demand for pepper in the food industry, prices could rise again.
Experts believe the pepper market reacted immediately to the US imposing tariffs on various countries, including a retaliatory tariff of up to 46% on Vietnam. Following the tariff announcement, the domestic pepper market reversed course and plummeted sharply. The next day, the Prime Minister instructed ministries and agencies to implement effective solutions to overcome external shocks, especially in the context of the pandemic and global conflicts.
Furthermore, the export market is in a passive position as the USD index strengthens again following the cautious remarks of the Fed Chairman. At the same time, pressure from a 20-30% reduction in pepper production due to bad weather, coupled with farmers hoarding their goods, has further dampened trading activity.

Nevertheless, in the first two months of the year, pepper export value still increased by nearly 49% despite a decline in production. Processed products such as ground black pepper and whole white pepper recorded good growth, helping to maintain the overall industry's value growth momentum.
Experts predict that if production in major producing countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and Brazil does not recover soon, global pepper prices could remain high. Demand for pepper in the food and spice industries is increasing, which could lead to supply shortages in the near future.
Given this situation, manufacturers and exporters need to closely monitor the situation in order to make timely adjustments to protect their economic interests.
