With the proposal to extend the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025 to 9 days, Vietnam's tourism industry has the opportunity to attract a large number of tourists. Travel companies have launched early Tet holiday tours with attractive prices and many promotions...
Plan your trip early.
Immediately after receiving information that authorities proposed only one option for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday: a continuous 9-day break, Ms. Thao Van (Xuan La ward, Tay Ho district, Hanoi ) made specific plans to travel to South Korea with her family.
"Because it involved visa application procedures and to proactively plan our itinerary, my family booked our South Korea tour early to get a better price...", Ms. Thao Van shared.

"This is also the option that families who frequently travel choose and finalize their plans early to proactively arrange their time. I'm waiting for my workplace to announce the annual holiday schedule for June 30th - May 1st and September 2nd next year, with a holiday of 4-5 days, so I can plan domestic and international trips," shared Ms. Phuong Anh (Cau Giay, Hanoi)...
During the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, tourists tend to choose longer overseas tours to facilitate visa application procedures. Destinations in Northeast Asia such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (China) remain strongly attractive. In addition, Thailand and Singapore are also two prominent markets in Southeast Asia... due to convenient immigration procedures.
Sharing his views on this matter, Mr. Pham Van Bay, Deputy Director of Vietravel Hanoi, stated: The proposal for a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, along with the swapping of working days to create two long holidays during the April 30th - May 1st and September 2nd holidays, will be a golden opportunity for people to have more time to rest, relax, and explore new and exciting destinations both domestically and internationally. In particular, with the extended holiday period, the tourism industry will have more favorable conditions to develop diverse and unique tourism products, thereby increasing opportunities for tourists to have a complete experience. This will not only help the tourism industry recover strongly but also contribute to the development of related services, creating more value for the economy.
Representatives from Vietravel predict that tourism demand will continue to increase sharply, especially for tours combining relaxation and traditional cultural experiences. Tourists will tend to choose longer trips, taking advantage of the extended holiday to relax with family and friends. For domestic destinations, tourists are particularly interested in combined tours such as Quy Nhon – Pleiku – Mang Den – Buon Ma Thuot – Da Lat (8 days 7 nights), Quy Nhon – Tuy Hoa – Nha Trang – Da Lat – Ho Chi Minh City – Tay Ninh (8 days 7 nights)... because these combined itineraries not only fulfill the desire to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) in their hometowns but also help family members learn more about their homeland.
According to Mr. Pham Van Bay, airfares are expected to increase during peak holiday seasons due to high demand. However, the company proactively collaborates with airlines to secure the best prices for customers, minimizing the impact of price increases on tour prices. The company also offers special packages and flexible promotional programs to help customers optimize their spending during Tet (Lunar New Year), such as: instant cashback of up to 4 million VND (between November 7th and November 22nd, 2024), additional travel vouchers worth up to 1.5 million VND... applicable to long-haul routes to Europe, Australia, America, and Africa, or special offers for overseas Vietnamese celebrating Tet at incredibly attractive prices...
Meanwhile, Mr. Le Cong Nang, General Director of WonderTour, said that the long Lunar New Year holiday will create a strong boost, bringing practical benefits to businesses, tourists, and the entire economy. A longer holiday means a higher number of tourists, thereby boosting revenue, expanding the market, diversifying products, and improving service quality. It is predicted that tourism revenue could grow by 15% - 20% compared to the same period last year.
WonderTour is focusing on developing unique tourism products that offer in-depth experiences of Vietnamese traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) culture and customs, such as: Spring Festival tours exploring distinctive traditional festivals held at the beginning of the new year throughout the country; homestay tours experiencing Tet in the countryside, providing tourists with authentic experiences of traditional Tet life in Vietnamese rural areas; and spiritual tours to famous spiritual destinations to pray for good fortune and peace in the new year…
Enhancing destination management
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, Director of AZA Travel and Vice President of the Hanoi Tourism Club, believes that long holidays are beneficial for stimulating tourism demand. Regarding domestic tourism, in addition to long-distance tours, regional tours attract a large number of people. A noticeable issue is the overcrowding at popular tourist destinations during long holidays; therefore, localities need to implement policies to coordinate efforts to prevent overcrowding, reduce environmental pollution, and protect local traditional cultural values.

Mr. Phung Quang Thang, Vice President of the Vietnam Travel Association, stated: "A very noticeable trend in domestic tourism recently is that tourists travel independently or only book a portion of services through travel agencies. This shows that the application of digital technology in Vietnamese service providers is becoming increasingly widespread. Therefore, the tourism industry and localities must have a common database on the number of tourists through service bookings, thereby enabling effective coordination."
Meanwhile, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration, stated that the tourism industry has a comprehensive plan for organizing tourism resource surveys and a survey methodology; and guidelines for implementing resource surveys at the local level. The comprehensive plan for organizing tourism resource surveys aims to concretize the tasks detailed in several articles of the Tourism Law; and at the same time, aims to form a tourism resource database system to serve management, planning, tourism product development, and the development of tourist areas and destinations nationwide.
