“Currently, the issue of contract compensation between coach Ishii and FAT has not been resolved. The two sides are continuing to negotiate to agree on compensation terms,” Mr. Mitsuo Kato, close assistant of coach Masatada Ishii, shared with Tri Thuc – Znews on the afternoon of October 25.

Coach Masatada Ishii was fired by FAT on the afternoon of October 21 for the reason of “no longer being suitable” and “achievements not meeting expectations”. This decision surprised the media and fans of the Golden Temple country because the Thai team had just had two big victories against Taiwan (2-0 and 6-1) in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

The Japanese coach was appointed by FAT in December 2023, replacing Mano Polking. In February 2024, the 1967-born strategist's contract was extended until August 2026.

After nearly two years leading the “war elephants”, Mr. Ishii and his team won 16, drew 6 and lost 8 out of 30 matches. Although the results were not bad, FAT still decided to terminate the contract before the deadline.

The unilateral termination of the contract forced FAT to pay a significant amount of compensation to Coach Ishii. The case between Coach Ishii and FAT is expected to continue, as the two sides have yet to reach a consensus on the level of contract compensation.

According to Mr. Mitsuo Kato, Coach Ishii is currently receiving attention from many Asian teams: "He has received invitations from a number of clubs in the Thai League, J.League and Southeast Asia. However, Coach Ishii is still carefully considering to choose a destination that suits his coaching philosophy."

Coach Ishii's right-hand man emphasized: "After what we have been through, what we need is honor and respect."

Immediately after being fired, Coach Ishii felt dissatisfied with the way FAT handled the matter. On his personal page, he said that on the morning of October 21, he was invited to a meeting to "review the match with Taiwan". However, immediately after the meeting, FAT suddenly announced the decision to fire him. Afterwards, the Japanese coach deleted all images related to the Thai team on social networks. This action was seen as an affirmation of Coach Ishii's disappointment with FAT's behavior.

Just one day after parting ways with coach Ishii, FAT immediately appointed Anthony Hudson, former coach of the US and Bahrain national teams, as his successor. Mr. Hudson will join the Thai team to prepare for a friendly match against Singapore on November 13, before continuing the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign against Sri Lanka on November 18.
