The International Football Federation (FIFA) has just officially finalized the country to replace Indonesia to host the 2023 U20 World Cup.
At the end of March, Indonesia was stripped of the right to host the 2023 U20 World Cup by FIFA for political reasons. All the investment in facilities as well as professional preparation of the Southeast Asian representative went down the drain.
On the contrary, this also makes it difficult for FIFA to find a replacement host country when there is only 1 month left until the 2023 U20 World Cup Finals will start (from May 20 to June 11).
However, the good news has come when FIFA has chosen a new host for the 2023 U20 World Cup. Accordingly, Argentina will officially be given the right to host the U20 world tournament.
It is known that the South American representative is the country that expressed the most desire and determination in the competition to host the 2023 U20 World Cup, after Indonesia was stripped of its hosting status by FIFA.
Argentina and Qatar were the last two countries to submit applications to FIFA to host the tournament, and the 2022 World Cup winner was ultimately successful in convincing the world's most powerful football body.
As hosts, the Argentina U20 team will automatically qualify for the 2023 U20 World Cup and be in Group 1. The draw will take place on April 11 in Zurich, Switzerland.
As for Indonesia, luckily for the archipelago nation, they avoided heavy penalties from FIFA for failing to successfully organize the 2023 U20 World Cup.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will still receive a penalty, but it will not be too severe. PSSI President Erick Thohir said: "I can say that Indonesia will escape a very heavy penalty from FIFA.
There will be no ban from international tournaments. In other words, Indonesia will only receive a yellow card, not a red card."
Notably, Indonesia also left open the possibility of competing to host the 2023 U17 World Cup after Peru was recently stripped of its hosting status by FIFA.
