In this match, Coach Giustozzi continued to use goalkeeper Pham Van Tu as the main goalkeeper instead of the long-time familiar face Ho Van Y. The Vietnamese team proactively entered the match with a fast attacking style towards the opponent's goal with the determination to score an early goal.
Meanwhile, Malaysia, which was weaker in strength, proactively played low, defending deep to protect the home team's goal. Malaysia's certainty and determination in competing caused many difficulties for the Vietnamese team's strikers. With tight defense, Malaysia's fast attacks often created "storms" on the Vietnamese team's field and goalkeeper Van Tu continued to show good form with quick reflexes, saving the home team's goal many times. In many situations, this goalkeeper won from close-range shots. In the beginning of the second half, Malaysia continued to play solidly in front of the relentless efforts of the Vietnamese players. In the 25th minute, Thinh Phat headed the ball into the Malaysian net. Initially, the referee recognized the goal, but the Malaysian players reacted when they thought that the Vietnamese players did not obey the whistle, so the referee team consulted and decided to... deny the goal. A minute later, Thinh Phat and his teammates were happy when Danial let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area, leading to a penalty. At the 6m mark, Minh Quang scored to put the home team up 1-0. The goal turned the game around when the Malaysian players opened up their formation to attack. Goalkeeper Van Tu continued to show excellent form when becoming a solid shield in the home team's goal. In the 32nd minute, Thinh Phat materialized that belief with a powerful shot to widen the gap to 2 goals. The Malaysian futsal players then played power-play to hope to find an equalizer but failed to score any goals and had to accept a 0-2 loss. For the Vietnamese team, winning the second consecutive match, the golden opportunity for the semi-finals is wide open before the remaining 2 matches of the group stage.
After the match, coach Diego Giustozzi said the Vietnamese team played very well in both technique and tactics. If they win today's match (November 5) against Brunei, Vietnam will advance to the semi-finals. Earlier, on the afternoon of November 2, the Vietnamese team had a smooth start at the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship when they won 4-1 against Timor Leste. The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship takes place from November 2 to 10 in Thailand. The tournament has the participation of 9 teams, divided into 2 groups. Group A has Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei and Timor-Leste. Group B has Indonesia, Myanmar, Australia and Cambodia./.
