At around 6:20 p.m., the Khanh Minh 09 transport ship, en route to Gianh port, discovered a person drifting at sea and immediately rescued him. The victim, Nguyen Van Nhan (born in 1980), said that while he and his friend Nguyen Duc Thuan (born in 1981) were casting their nets, the boat suddenly took on water and sank. Nhan was rescued by a cargo ship, while Thuan clung to the sunken part of the boat and went missing.
