Dedicated medical staff at Che Tao

Che Tao - a highland commune of Lao Cai province, has long been known as a difficult area, with isolated traffic, rugged terrain, cold winters, and potentially unsafe rainy and flood seasons. However, amidst these hardships, there is still a force quietly staying, protecting and taking care of the health of the people here day and night. That is the grassroots medical staff, the "white-shirt soldiers" who are quietly contributing with all their heart and responsibility.

Although Che Tao Commune Health Station has been invested in facilities, it is still quite lacking in equipment, the inpatient treatment rooms are not spacious, and there is a lack of specialized rooms. However, the lights are always on when people need it. Her child had a sore throat and fever, so early in the morning, Giang Thi Ninh in Che Tao village took her to the commune health station for examination. After being examined and diagnosed with a high fever, Ms. Ninh's child had to be hospitalized.

Although it is located 35 km from Mu Cang Chai Regional Medical Center and still lacks doctors, with the dedication of the medical team, local people feel more secure in examining and treating common diseases.

"My child is sick and it would be very far to take him to the regional medical center, so we brought him here for examination. Here, the staff at the station examined and treated him enthusiastically, so we feel very secure," said Giang Thi Ninh.

Determined to perform well the task of taking care of people's health, the staff of the station always does a good job of medical examination and treatment, expanded vaccination, disease prevention, and health communication. During the rainy season or cold winter, the station is always on duty 24/7, ready to handle emergency cases at the station when it is not possible to transfer to another hospital.

With 5 staff including 3 doctors and 2 nurses, the work of the medical staff in Che Tao does not stop at examining and treating patients but also involves propagating and mobilizing people to change outdated living habits and raise awareness of disease prevention. During communication sessions in the village, the medical staff persistently instruct people to wash their hands with soap, eat cooked food and drink boiled water, maintain environmental hygiene, use hygienic toilets and proactively vaccinate children fully.

We also propagate and encourage people to understand when we are sick. Even though the road is far, we must voluntarily go to the station to get medicine so that the doctor can examine us promptly, said Ms. Sung Thi Ru - a nurse at Che Tao Commune Health Station.

Among the medical staff of Che Tao commune, there are people who have been attached to this land for more than ten years, considering it as their second homeland. They work far from their families, lacking in all aspects, but have never thought of leaving the highlands. For them, the greatest joy is seeing healthy children, caring for the elderly, and seeing the bright smiles of the people after each recovery.

There are late nights, when the whole village is asleep, the electricity at the medical station is still on, the medical staff are working with all their heart to promptly rescue a pregnant woman or a patient with serious complications. In those life-and-death moments, they are the only support for the people. Without noise, without ostentation, those people quietly contribute with all their devotion and love for the profession. They consider their work not only a duty but also a sacred responsibility for the lives of their fellow countrymen.

Besides, the station still lacks doctors, midwives, pharmacists and equipment, but above all is the sense of responsibility and love for the profession, each medical staff here has determined the spirit and responsibility to make people feel secure in health care.

The specialized equipment at Che Tao Commune Health Station is lacking. The station proposes to add ultrasound machines and testing machines so that people can access medical services right at the facility and feel more secure in examination, diagnosis and treatment.

Mr. Giang A Thao - Head of Che Tao Commune Health Station.

With a sense of responsibility and dedication, the medical staff of Che Tao commune has become a support for the people in this remote mountainous area. They are the ones who "keep the fire" for community health, contributing to improving the quality of life and the development of the locality.
