Farmers in Bao Thang commune actively go to the fields to produce the winter crop.

At this time, in the fields of Quyet Tam village, Bao Thang commune, farmers are busy harvesting early winter vegetables and planting and taking care of the next winter crop to increase income.

This season, farmers are excited because vegetable prices have increased compared to the same period last year. According to households, vegetable prices are high because of unfavorable weather and this is also the transition period between vegetable crops, so the market is scarce. Currently, the prices of leafy vegetables, kohlrabi, etc. are being purchased by retailers at the garden at an average of 20,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Hoang Thi Binh, Quyet Tam village shared: In the winter crop, we mainly grow vegetables and beans of all kinds to supply the markets of neighboring communes and wards. After harvesting the early crop, we have to plant immediately to sell the next crop in time. Hopefully, from now until Tet, vegetable prices will continue to be high so that farmers can have a successful crop.

Similarly, in Nam Hai village, beds of vegetables, cabbage, kohlrabi, herbs and even sweet potatoes are entering the stage of green growth. Farmers in Nam Hai village said that after long periods of rain and flooding, the riverbanks have a large amount of alluvium to help vegetables grow well.

While watering vegetables, Ms. Vu Thi Phuong, Nam Hai village shared: My family mainly grows cabbage, kohlrabi and some other leafy vegetables. Because they are planted later than other households, this crop of vegetables is mainly to serve the year-end market. If prices are stable, growing winter vegetables can help the family earn tens of millions of dong in additional income.

Ms. Giang Thi Thuy, Bau village, harvests jicama to continue winter crop production.

Meanwhile, in Bau village, farmers are actively harvesting jicama to free up land to prepare for planting squash, gourd and eggplant. For many years, farmers in this area have maintained the model of growing jicama, combined with other winter vegetables to increase income.

Ms. Giang Thi Thuy, Bau village shared: This year, the jicama has a good harvest and good price, and can be sold for an average of 8,000 VND/kg in the garden, an average increase of 3,000 VND/kg compared to the previous crop. With ^200m2 of jicama, I earn about 8 million VND. In addition, I also grow many other types of vegetables and beans to increase my income.

It is known that in the winter crop of 2025, the whole Bao Thang commune has 39/49 villages planting nearly 290 hectares of vegetables. This is identified as one of the important commodity production crops to ensure food supply and increase economic value for people in the commune. Bao Thang commune hopes that promoting winter crop production will contribute to increasing the value per unit of cultivated area of the whole commune to over 106 million/ha in 2025. At the same time, it will create motivation to establish new linkage groups, cooperative groups, and professional associations to increase the value of agricultural production activities.

To improve the quality of winter crop production, Bao Thang Commune People's Committee has directed specialized departments and units to closely monitor the weather situation and provide technical guidance to farmers. Thereby, gradually forming concentrated production areas to maximize potential and strengths, creating a breakthrough in agriculture , helping to increase income for farmers in the commune.
