"The two of them are also twin sisters. And they wrote two essays that are practically identical. Both essays describing the seascape of Phu Quoc are almost exactly the same, from the ideas, the way they write the introduction, body, and conclusion, to the use of vocabulary and imagery. I asked them why. They finally admitted that they had used Google and even the GPT chat tool for assistance," Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, a second-year student majoring in primary education at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and currently tutoring primary school students, shared with Thanh Nien Online this morning, November 8th.

The story Phương Thảo shared serves as a familiar example in today's school life. Technology greatly assists students' learning; however, if misused, it can be a "double-edged sword," causing students to gradually lose their critical thinking and creativity.

Phuong Thao said that as a tutor, she advises students to consider Google and Chat GPT as reference tools, but not to copy ideas, sentences, or expressions from the solutions on those platforms and make them their own.
"The 2018 General Education Program is very 'open,' for example, in the essay writing section, 4th and 5th graders can write according to their abilities and individual feelings. Teachers are very much looking forward to receiving essays that are the unique creations of each student. The wording might be a little naive, the structure might not be very coherent, but it must be the students' own work, not a formulaic piece where every essay is similar," said a female student majoring in primary education.
This morning, November 8th, eTeacher Tutoring Company held its 2024 tutor meeting. This annual event, organized to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th, honors promising and inspiring tutors who have made significant contributions and helped students achieve positive changes.
Each tutor must also keep up with technological advancements.
Tutors share their work journeys.
Here, many tutors share their experiences, both happy and sad, during their teaching careers. For example, tutor Mac Thi Thu Trang, currently a second-year student majoring in primary education at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, shared that before becoming a home tutor, she would chat and interact with students to make them feel more comfortable. Then, once she identified any knowledge gaps, the tutor could easily provide support and help students catch up on their classroom learning.
According to tutor Mai Thi Song Uyen, a student majoring in English at Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology (HUFLIT), who has been a tutor for 4 years and won the 2024 Inspirational Tutor Award, her teaching journey has been filled with countless experiences. Each student has their own story, and a tutor is not only someone who provides additional knowledge, but also, in a way, a friend, offering advice to students during important moments.
Many tutors were honored at the 2024 tutor recognition event.
Small contributions, big changes.
Nguyen Ngoc Huy Sang, a former tutor and co-founder of eTeacher, said that for many students, tutoring might just be a part-time job during their 4-5 years of university studies to earn extra income and gain experience. However, the knowledge, sincerity, and effective teaching methods of tutors can create significant changes and be turning points in the lives of many students.
Tutors also need to adapt in the digital age. For Phuong Thao, with technology constantly evolving, every elementary education student like herself must strive to stay ahead. However, according to Phuong Thao, even in the digital age, the pedagogical competence of a teacher—the role of a teacher who converses, accompanies, and inspires learners to understand and find their own path—will never be replaced.
