Established in 2012 and becoming an annual tournament since 2013, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Table Tennis Tournament has gradually affirmed its position as one of the prestigious playgrounds of Vietnamese table tennis. Over the past decade, the tournament has not only attracted a large number of professional and amateur athletes in the country but also contributed to promoting the strong development of the table tennis movement in the capital and other localities.

The 2025 season is the largest ever, with 80 registered teams and nearly 400 athletes competing in 12 events. Compared to previous seasons, the number of participating teams, especially in the amateur men's team event, has increased significantly. This increase is considered a positive sign, showing that the spread of the amateur table tennis movement is increasingly widespread, not only in the Hanoi area but also in many provinces and cities across the country.

This year’s list of participating delegations stretches from north to south, with the participation of athletes from many localities such as Vinh Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Da Nang, Nghe An, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong. This shows that the attraction of the tournament has gone beyond the scope of a local sporting event to become a tournament with regional influence, gathering excellent tennis players from all over the country.

This year's tournament has a total of 12 competitions, including: men's singles with leaders; men's team in advanced category; men's team in amateur category; men's singles in advanced category; men's singles in amateur category under 45 years old; women's singles from 45 years old and above; women's singles under 45 years old; men's doubles with leaders; men's doubles in amateur category from 45 years old and above; mixed doubles over 45 years old; mixed doubles under 45 years old and women's doubles over 45 years old.

The sponsor representative said that the DoubleFish 235 green table will be used.

The Organizing Committee stipulates that each athlete can only register for a maximum of two events to ensure professional quality and competition progress. The tournament applies the Table Tennis Competition Law issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , and uses a DoubleFish 235 green table and a national standard competition mat. These are equipment approved by the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, often used in professional tournaments at national and international levels, contributing to creating the best competition conditions for athletes.

A notable point in this year's tournament is that the total prize value has increased by 10% compared to 2024, to more than 160 million VND. The Organizing Committee will award trophies, flags, bonuses and medals to the teams, pairs and individuals who win first, second and third prizes in each category. The increase in prize levels is considered a move to encourage the competitive spirit, while increasing the attractiveness of the tournament in the table tennis community nationwide.

Not only is it a place for amateur players to compete, the Hanoi Moi Open Table Tennis Tournament is also a meeting place for the top names in Vietnamese table tennis. The 2025 season will feature former national players such as Vu Thi Noel, Nguyen Bich Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Mai, Nguyen Tuan Quynh, and Vu Quang Hien. Unfortunately, the national players cannot participate, but many prominent current athletes such as Nguyen Dang Hiep, Bui The Nghia, Vu Manh Huy, Nguyen Nhu Phong, Tran Manh Cuong, Nguyen Hoang Lam, Ta Hong Khanh, Le Van Duc, Lam Thu Cuc, Hoang Tra My, Tran Dieu Linh, and Vu Hoai Thanh will participate in the competition, which promises to be tense and exciting.

The presence of veteran players alongside the young force is considered an important factor in helping to improve the quality of the tournament. The matches promise to be exciting and attractive with many dramatic moves, while also providing opportunities for amateur players to learn and exchange when competing with experienced athletes.

With the goal of both creating a useful playground and promoting the mass sports movement, the 12th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Table Tennis Tournament in 2025 continues to affirm its role as a meaningful social sports activity of the capital Hanoi. The tournament not only brings an exciting competitive atmosphere, but also contributes to enhancing the spirit of physical training, building a healthy and civilized lifestyle in the community.

After more than a decade of organization, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Table Tennis Tournament has become a familiar brand of the capital's sports, associated with the spirit of honest, noble and united sports. The 2025 season with an expanded scale, improved professional quality and the participation of many professional and amateur athletes is expected to continue to leave its mark, contributing to the overall development of Vietnamese table tennis.
