APSDA Grand Prize 2025 honors Vietnamese designer and teacher

Recently, in Manila (Philippines), the Asia- Pacific Spatial Design Association (APSDA) officially announced the individuals honored in the "Personality of the Year" award system at the APSDA AWARDS 2025 Awards Ceremony - the most prestigious annual event in the region for the spatial design industry. Among the four outstanding individuals named, Dr. - Designer Luu Viet Thang, Head of the Department of Interior and Exterior Design, University of Industrial Fine Arts, is the only representative of Vietnam to be awarded the title "Design Educator of the Year".

This is the first time a Vietnamese designer and educator has received this prestigious award from APSDA, affirming the increasingly clear position of Vietnamese design education in the region. The award recognizes Dr. Luu Viet Thang’s persistent efforts and extensive contributions in innovating training, promoting community connections and inspiring many generations of students in the field of interior design.

With more than two decades of teaching and research, he has built a comprehensive design education ecosystem, combining theory - practice - career connection. Notably, he founded the Young Interior Design Community of Vietnam (YIDC), which brings together students and lecturers from nearly 30 universities nationwide, connecting with businesses, industry experts and international associations.

Under his leadership, professional activities such as ID Talk, ID Forum, ID Tour and especially the Vietnam Interior Student Award (ISA) have become professional playgrounds, contributing to improving the quality of training and creativity in the industry. Not stopping at the national level, Dr. Luu Viet Thang also expanded international exchanges through cooperation programs, exhibitions and student festivals, contributing to the deep integration of Vietnamese interior design with the region.

The “Design Educator of the Year” award comes on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Interior and Exterior Design, University of Industrial Fine Arts. This is a meaningful milestone, not only for him personally but also for the entire interior design industry in the country, when Vietnamese education is increasingly recognized on the regional design map.

APSDA AWARDS is an annual award system organized by the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA), to honor individuals and organizations with outstanding contributions to the field of space design in the region. With the participation of more than 15 member associations from countries such as Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Philippines, India..., APSDA is considered one of the most prestigious professional organizations in the interior design and architecture industry in the region.

The Personality of the Year awards system includes four prestigious categories: Design Educator of the Year, Designer of the Year, Young Designer of the Year and Design Journalist of the Year. These are iconic awards, recognizing innovative thinking, professional influence and positive contributions to the development of the Asia-Pacific design community.
