Reducing environmental impact to conserve red-crowned cranes

On May 27, Mr. Tran Thanh Thanh, Vice Chairman of Tam Nong District People's Committee (Dong Thap Province) said that the district is focusing on mobilizing households in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park to expand the area of ​​ecological rice, gradually switch to organic production, reduce environmental impacts, and contribute to protecting natural resources associated with the conservation and development of red-crowned cranes.

Recently, Tam Nong District People's Committee and Chon Chinh Dong Thap Muoi Green Agriculture Joint Stock Company, Phu Xuan Agricultural Service Cooperative (Phu Duc Commune) and Cooperative Group No. 7 (Tan Cong Sinh Commune) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in ecological rice consumption combined with conservation and development of red-crowned cranes.

This summer-autumn crop, 46 households of Phu Xuan Agricultural Service Cooperative (Phu Duc Commune) and Cooperative Group No. 7 (Tan Cong Sinh Commune) participated in organic and ecological rice production, with an area of ​​over 310 hectares. By 2032, we strive to expand the entire area of ​​over 950 hectares, in plots 25 in Phu Duc Commune and plot 43B in Tan Cong Sinh Commune in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park. At the same time, we will build the brand "Tam Nong Crane Rice" to serve domestic and foreign markets.

Improving the ecological environment in organic agricultural production in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park is one of the important foundations contributing to the effective implementation of the Project on conservation and development of red-crowned cranes in Tram Chim National Park in the period of 2022 - 2032.

On the same day, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province said that to implement the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030", the province registered to participate with an area of ​​29,500 hectares.

To effectively implement the project, Tien Giang province has organized many training courses with the following contents: technical process of producing high-quality and low-emission rice; straw management process in the direction of circular agriculture; "1 must, 5 reduction" rice production, application of high technology, application of synchronous mechanization. Implementing 3 models of "Piloting high-quality rice production, reducing emissions in Tien Giang province" in the Winter-Spring crop of 2024 - 2025 in Phuoc Trung commune, Go Cong Dong district; Binh Tan commune, Go Cong Tay district; Hau My Bac B commune, Cai Be district with a scale of 51ha/48 participating households.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province, applying high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation processes helps reduce pests and diseases, reducing the need for 3 sprayings per crop.
