(HNMO) - On the competition day of May 13 at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation continued to compete in strong sports such as judo, weightlifting, aerobics, stick fighting, road cycling, traditional boat racing, diving... The athletes competed excellently to bring home 16 more gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals.
The highlight of the competition day on May 13 was the excellent performance of the Vietnamese aerobic team , bringing home three more gold medals for the Vietnamese delegation. The three gold medals went to Pham The Gia Hien (men's single aerobics), Tran Ha Vi (women's single aerobics), Hoang Gia Bao, Le Hoang Phong, Nguyen Che Thanh (men's three-person team).
In the final of the men's aerobic singles, athlete Pham The Gia Hien had an excellent performance, achieving a total score of 19.450, winning the Gold Medal. Athlete Chanokpon Jiumsukjai of Thailand won the Silver Medal with 18.433 points; athlete Has Sokhon of Cambodia won the Bronze Medal with a score of 18.100.
In the final of the women's aerobic singles, athlete Tran Ha Vi also had a perfect performance, achieving a total score of 19.450, winning the Gold Medal. The silver medal winner in this event was also a Thai athlete with 18.433 points. Thus, Ha Vi successfully changed the color of the medal from silver to gold when at the 31st SEA Games on home soil, she lost to a Thai athlete.
In the final of the men's three-man group event, the trio Hoang Gia Bao, Le Hoang Phong, and Nguyen Che Thanh completed a golden "hat-trick" of aerobics when they won this event with a total score of 19.267. The silver medal went to the athletes of Thailand and the bronze medal went to the team of the host country Cambodia.
In weightlifting, athlete Lai Gia Thanh successfully defended his Gold Medal in weightlifting on the opening day. In the final round of the men's 55 kg category, athlete Lai Gia Thanh competed with 4 opponents from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos. In this competition, Lai Gia Thanh demonstrated his strength when he achieved 140 kg in clean and jerk, 140 kg in clean and jerk, and a total of 261 kg, winning the Gold Medal.
Second place, winning the Silver Medal was athlete Thada (Thailand) with a total lift of 258kg; third place, winning the Bronze Medal was athlete Husni (Indonesia) with a total lift of 253kg. With this achievement, Lai Gia Thanh successfully defended his SEA Games Gold Medal for the third consecutive time.
Meanwhile, in road cycling, Asian champion Nguyen Thi That brought home the first gold medal for Vietnamese cycling at the 32nd SEA Games in the women's mass start road event.
On the same competition day, athletes Bui Thi Yen, Nguyen Thi Huong, Nguyen Hong Thai, Ho Thi Ne, Ma Thi Thuong, and Diep Thi Huong won the final of the 3-person (U24) 250m - women's event, bringing home the first gold medal for Vietnam in traditional rowing.
In Chinese chess , player Lai Ly Huynh played excellently, winning three games, drawing two games, and scoring 8 points to win the gold medal in the men's standard chess event. His teammate Nguyen Thanh Bao received the bronze medal, but contributed to a draw with his Singaporean opponent in the final game, allowing Ly Huynh to take the top spot.
In judo, martial artists Ta Duc Huy and Nguyen Cuong Thinh excellently won gold medals in the kime no kata (self-defense form) category.
Boxing also brought home 2 gold medals. Impressing in the final of the women's 63 kg category, Hanoi boxer Ha Thi Linh defeated the Filipino boxer to win the gold medal. The second gold medal belonged to Bui Phuoc Tung. In the final of the men's 71 kg category, Bui Phuoc Tung knocked out Thai opponent Atichai Phoemsap in the second round to win the gold medal.
Billiards also received good news when female player Le Thi Ngoc Hue won the gold medal in the 1-cushion carom event after defeating teammate Phung Kien Tuong in the final match with a score of 50-17.
The highlight of today's competition was in diving, where the athletes performed excellently and brought home 5 more gold medals thanks to the efforts of athletes including: Kim Anh Kiet (men's 400m air spring, breaking the SEA Games record, diving); Nguyen Tran San San (women's 400m air spring, diving); Vu Dang Nhat Nam (pair 200m air spring, diving); teammates Tran Phuong Nhi, Dang Thi Vuong, Pham Thi Thu, Cao Thi Duyen, Tran Phuong Nhi (women's 4 x 100m relay team, diving); teammates Nguyen Tien Dat, Do Dinh Toan, Dang Duc Manh, Nguyen Thanh Loc, Le Dang Duc Viet (men's 4x100m air spring, diving).
In the men's football semi-final, the U22 Vietnam team regrettably lost 2-3 to U22 Indonesia in extra time in the semi-final, becoming the former SEA Games champion.
Despite being behind twice, the Vietnamese players were able to catch up. Even having the advantage of a number of players in the second half and dominating the second half of the match, at the decisive moment, the Vietnamese players could not hold on when they lost the decisive goal in extra time, forcing them to stop in the semi-finals. With this result, U22 Indonesia won the right to play in the final match.
Thus, on the competition day of May 13, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation won 16 more gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals.
* As of 9pm today, the Vietnamese sports delegation temporarily leads the overall rankings with 86 gold medals. Second is the Thai sports delegation with 78 gold medals. Third is the host Cambodia with 59 gold medals.
With the current achievement of 8 more gold medals than the Thai Sports Delegation, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation continues to maintain its top position in the medal table.
