Strong winds, big waves and thunderstorms at sea due to the impact of storm Matmo

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned of strong winds, large waves and thunderstorms at sea. Accordingly, at 1 p.m. on October 2, the center of storm Matmo was at about 15.1 degrees North latitude; 126.4 degrees East longitude, in the sea east of the Philippines.

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 8 (62-74 km/h), gusting to level 10. The storm moves in a West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 25 km/h.

Forecast, at noon and afternoon on October 3, in the eastern sea area of the North East Sea, the wind will gradually increase to level 6-7, near the storm center level 8-9, gusting to level 11; waves 3.0-5.0m high; very rough seas. In addition, from noon and afternoon on October 3, the eastern sea area of the North East Sea will have storms and rain.

Accordingly, on the night of October 3 and 4, in the northern sea area of the North East Sea, the wind will gradually increase to level 8-9, near the storm center level 10-11, gusting to level 13; waves 4-6m high; rough seas.

The sea area south of the North East Sea (including Hoang Sa special zone) has winds gradually increasing to level 6-7, gusting to level 9; waves 3.0-5.0m high; rough seas.

Authorities warn that all vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves. Regarding the level of risk of natural disasters at sea: The sea area east of the North East Sea is level 3.

Also according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, currently, floods on the Lo River (Tuyen Quang), Thai Binh River (Hai Phong), Thuong River (Bac Ninh) and the downstream of the Ca River (Nghe An) are slowly receding. Floods on the Cau River (Bac Ninh) continue to rise.

In the next 6 hours, flood on Cau River is forecasted to peak above alert level 3; Lo River will slowly recede and be at alert level 3. In the next 12 hours, flood on Lo River, Cau River, Thuong River will be below alert level 3; Thai Binh River will be below alert level 2; flood in the downstream of Ca River will slowly recede and be above alert level 2.

In the next 12-24 hours, flood on Cau River will continue to fall below alert level 3; Lo River and Thuong River will continue to fall and be above alert level 2; flood on Thai Binh River will fall slowly and be at alert level 1-alarm level 2; flood in the downstream of Ca River will fall below alert level 2. In the next 36 hours, flood on Thai Binh River will continue to fall and be at alert level 1.

There is a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in the Northern region, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An ; flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in the mountainous areas of the Northern region, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An.

Flood risk warning level 3. River floods cause inundation of low-lying areas along the river, affecting activities such as waterway transport, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's lives and socio- economic activities.
