Dinh Van was a printer repair and assembly worker but had a strong passion for music . After work, he often participated in cultural exchanges. In 1982, he won a Gold Medal at a mass cultural competition with the song "My City". That was the turning point that led him to the path of professional singing.

In 1985, Dinh Van won the Gold Medal at the Mass Arts Performance of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor held in Hai Phong , with the song "Singing about you" (The Hien). By the 1990s, Dinh Van had achieved great success when participating in "Dust Rain". The male singer recalled: " I must say that I will always remember my very talented younger brother - musician Huu Minh (Minh Vy), who gave birth to "Dust Rain". It was thanks to "Dust Rain" that from the time of Dinh Van's guitar until the transition to "Dust Rain", I was loved by my brothers and generations... At that time, Dinh Van sang and Hanoi seemed to be addicted to "Dust Rain". For 5 months, I sang every day and the show was always sold out ".

When "Dust Rain" declined, Dinh Van turned to composing. He has many good songs performed by famous artists such as: "Small Hamlet" (Quang Linh), "Love for Ba Ba Shirt" (Cam Ly), "Three Friends" (Ung Hoang Phuc), "White Stork" (Phi Nhung)...

In recent years, the male singer has become more associated with bolero music and received love and attention from the audience.

There was also a time when Dinh Van almost gave up music, he lost his enthusiasm because he had to worry about economic matters. In a TV show, the male singer confided: " It was because of life that my enthusiasm faded. I had a long time of sadness because I had to worry about life. I am not a rich musician, because I live with my heart, friendship and brothers are more important than money. If God gave me a whole heart, a whole mind, a life without worries, all day long with only a backpack on my shoulder and an acoustic guitar, there would be nothing better ."

Currently, Dinh Van's life is peaceful. He only accepts to perform in some suitable programs. According to the male singer, that is his way of showing respect to the program as well as to the audience who loves him.

In his private life, he has a happy life with his wife and children. Sharing about his wife with VietNamNet, Dinh Van confided: " My wife takes care of every outfit for me, takes care of the housework, arranges the house inside and out... Having gone through happiness and suffering together, joy and sadness together, we both understand each other very well. I am still proud to show off my luck in marrying a virtuous wife. She came at a time when Dinh Van had nothing in his hands, when his career and money had all passed. I remember and cherish this and always try to preserve the happiness of our marriage ."
