To create a beautifully lifelike Catholic statue, craftsmen must go through many elaborate stages, requiring meticulous attention to detail and high technical skill, from sculpting and refining details to perfecting the colors. This is also a long-standing traditional craft in the locality, maintained and developed through many generations. Currently, Ninh Binh province has more than 20 large Catholic statue workshops, providing employment for hundreds of workers, with an average income of about 10 million VND per month. Whether made from wood, stone, or composite, each statue is meticulously crafted, becoming a highlight in nativity scenes, churches, and the homes of parishioners during religious holidays.
This year, workshops are even busier as many churches prepare to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the tradition of making nativity scenes. Demand for large-sized Christmas statues has surged, forcing workshops to mobilize maximum manpower. With only about two weeks left until Christmas, local authorities are also coordinating with parishes to prepare decorations and ensure security so that parishioners can celebrate the holiday season solemnly and peacefully. Another Christmas season is approaching, and Catholic statues – symbols of faith and goodness – are being completed, contributing to the beauty of church spaces and Catholic homes.
